Lol we always called cabbage recreational food. As a kid growing up it was pretty comical to rip a fart you could time on a watch. My grandpa would cut a head of cabbage into 3 wedges give my brother and I each one and take the third... good times I sure miss that man!

Liver
Spam
Sardines
Turnips
Turnip Greens
Lamb
Bell peppers
Hated brussel sprouts as a kid, but if done right i love them now. A little salt, pepper, balsamic vinaigrette, and a touch of honey makes some good stuff
Corajo?? - some mess my grandfather made up. Went camping with him and a friend of mine when we were little and that's all grandad brought for the weekend. Tomato paste, pork skins, and something else that i cant remember. Man was that stuff nasty! My buddy and i about starved that weekend.

When there are 9 kids and your dad is in the military there are very few things that qualify as bad food.
The only thing I disliked and this is in the 60's my mom would boil Brussel Sprouts until it turned into Green snot soup yuk barf

Here's a question....is it the taste, the smell, or the texture?

For me, it's texture....like the taste of mushrooms, can't stand the texture...same with oysters, braised meat, avacado, cooked carrots, and others.

There is stuff I can't stand the taste, but if it feels weird in my mouth....no way.

With me it is all about smell and taste, texture or how it looks does not bother me.

Stub caused me to remember that as a kid I always sniffed the food before I ate. Really ticked my Mom off, but like I said earlier, she was not a good cook. Sniffing it was a self protection effort. Probably I should have sniffed not quite so loudly.

I still sniff the chow, but am way more subtle.

Liver and onions - used to try to hide it in my shoe when my parents weren't looking. Still won't eat liver.

Love liver and onions, boiled okra and many other things listed. All about the preparation. Hominy could be doused with enough things to make it tolerable. Canned sardines.....never! Had a fellow toss a sardine at my cat once and she tried to cover it up like a turd. There are things in other parts of the world that I would not even consider. Baloots in the Philippines or sheep eyes in the mid-east. As a child my mother and all the women in my family were very good cooks. Spoiled, yes. Now days as a geezer I cook and eat as I wish. If my appetite needs to be jump started I look on this forum for the many good things the folks post.

I’m surprised at the number of folks that don’t like sardines. I eat them occasionally, though my wife insists that I take the cans and the smell to the barn workshop trash barrel. Dad used to mix up sardines, lemon juice, and chopped onions in a bowl and eat it. It’s good stuff. Tough on your close friends though.

Sardines were not a childhood food.

Absolutely hated liver and Lima beans. When I grew up you cleaned your plate and I would have to chock it down.
Today liver is one of my favorite foods, I would eat weekly if it were better for you, I only allow it a few times a year. I also love Lima beans now, and canned quiet a few jars this summer.

For the most part, I liked everything as a kid, still do today.
However, I wasn’t real fond of canned spinach. I love fresh spinach though.
