You can try Longview diesel & performance, they stay busy, I don't know if they do pre purchase inspections.

The problem with buying one already deleted & tuned is no telling if they did a good job of full delete using quality parts without at least a partial tear down, or if the 'tunes' are supported and a good match for your expectations.

There are as many hack type performance shops as good ones.
So for any used deleted & tuned pickup exactly who / where did the work (delete & tune) and how it was driven/used and maintained makes all the difference in the world.

Just me, the only way I'd buy a used deleted & tuned pickup is if I knew the previous owner & full back story, otherwise I'd pass, or only if the price was substantially lower (like $8,000 - 10,000) under an equal stock vehicle.

And guys...stop touting the 7.3 like it’s the greatest thing ever. It was a great truck for its day, but the last one they made was in early 03’....almost 20 years ago.

Get in a new 6.7 and see what modern diesel technologies are all about. They now have literally almost double the power of the last super duty issued with the 7.3

I agree that the stock form 7.3 is a dog. In fact mine has had significant upgrades to get 3/4 the power of a new 6.7. The one thing we people living in the past have going for us is a reliable motor. There’s that.

The 7.3 is a great motor, but I can’t remember seeing one recently that didn’t have gone of miles on it.

I had one that was chipped up, think it was rated at 330 hp and 700 ft.lbs of torque. It ran well, pulled good, but it’s nothing like the new 6.7’s.

I think ford has finally found another winner after the 6.0 and 6.4’s.

The 7.3 liter engine is the Abu Garcia Ambassador 5000 of the truck world....in its day it was the best, still reliable and will still work, but we have better tools available to us now

Had a 6.9 in a 1 ton welding rig when I first started my business. 1985. Wouldn't pull a napkin off a cup. Got eat up with Ford 6.0's and one 6.4 when company started to get bigger. Went with the 5.9 Cummins and never looked back. Oh and had a couple underpowered 6.5 GM Diesels and the mechanical pump injection units were fine as far as reliability. The Electronic Injection ones eat us up.

2000 powerstroke rated 300/500. Turbo, 4” all the way, injectors, tunes = 440/700. 15.5 mpg. I want a new one some days but when I come across the title in the safe it makes me happy.

I wonder at what point they are going to quit chasing peak performance and make the trucks do a better job of what people need out of them. In 2050 are they going to be making 1000 hp 2500 ftlb torque 1 ton trucks?

And break down on every corner. Love the guys driving diesels and tell you mine has 125,000 miles and no problems. Duh, they're suppose to do that. Have had about 10 diesels over the years, all makes and models and when they do break down, Big bucks. Don't need one unless you're pulling ton's of weight. Our little welding rigs were about 10,500 lbs. all the time unless we pulled a trailer. A lot of them were money pits. Why I drive a Ford FX4 6.2 gasser now. Gonna try the 7.3 liter (445 cu. in.) next. banana

Stay away from the 6.4. Mileage will be 9-11 stock and 11-13 deleted and tuned with a light foot. The bellows are notorious for cracking and be lucky if you get 100K out of them. Low side turbo failures are regular not to mention its a compound setup so twice the money when you shell the low side taking out the high side. Was only around from 08-10 so good luck finding any body parts etc, SCT and bully dog are the only tuners for it and are packaged tunes, nothing customizable. Stick with the 6.7 and an EzLynk tuner and youll be much happier, avoid the pre-15 due to turbo failures and upgraded internals.

I had a 7.3 198,000 miles on the clock. Loved the sound!
Had two 6.0's both solid over 220,000 miles combined.
The 6.7 I have had 3 total. 2011-130K, two 2017's one with 40K and my current 50K.

I avoided the 6.4 mainly because they we're so ugly and fuel mileage was awful.

If you can get the 6.7, it's a beast and I am going to make this my last truck.

The 2020's just came out with 475 hp and 1050lbs of torque.

Insane.

I think hp and torque are what people need out of them. why else would you buy a diesel truck?

I think about the gas engine from time to time.

I probably don't absolutely need a diesel. I pull roughly a 4500 lb trailer around 3-4 times a week, and on a rare occasion pull a tractor or travel trailer, so I would say I need a 3/4 ton platform.

but I often wonder if I would be better served with a gasser. I drove the 6.2 liter and wasn't that impressed. Don't know if the 7.3 liter will be any better.

Honestly, if you drive a lot for a living and put a lot of miles on an engine and keep,it 5 years or more.helps with resale.

This morning walking into a QT convenience store and there was an old 7.3 f250 running,...besides the rack rack rack sound, I really miss that smell of the diesel exhaust. Really loved my 7.3.

Try to find one with the 4.30 gears. I got to drive one recently, and compared to the 3.73s, it was night and day. Much more enjoyable to drive.
