Wow, Impressive!
I remember when I was first told of Crane (Sandy) hunting, I was new to hunting and thought my buddies were trying to pull one over on me...like who would ever eat a Crane? are they even edible??? Then the internet came along and i was able to finally believe them. Just recently moved here from Illinois---we had a lot of them but I never hunted any.... how do they taste??

Remove silver skin from breast, smoke them and they taste very good.

We're booked in Final Decent in a few weeks. How was your hunt?

We went on our hunt on dec 26th, weather wasn’t the greatest but we had a great hunt. We were able to take a few cranes,Didn’t limit out but most of that was our fault for not doing our part in the shooting department. I would highly recommend final decent and will hunt with them again if I get the opportunity.

Ha! I'll probably be in the same boat. I don't get to shoot the shotgun as much as the rifle but I'll looking forward to knocking the dust off the old girl.

Were they still going to decoys or were you shooting fly by's?

We were hunting over decoys, they seemed to want to come to them, but of all days up there, that day there was NO wind, so we had very little movement from our spread, and I think that messed with the birds. Overall a great experience though and I want to go again as soon as I can, let me know how your hunt goes...

A bit late to this thread but I have to recommend Panhandles Best for crane hunting in the Panhandle. Only outfit I am aware of that uses real stuffed cranes for decoys and it really makes a huge difference.

It ain't whether you hit a bird that matters, it's the fun you have even if you don't.
