I am flying from Johannesburg to Polokwane next week on SAA Airlink. SAA Airlink requires firearm registration with the help desk in South Africa. I have been calling for a week but person at the desk says they cannot hear me. The Airlink site says registration must be made 3 days prior to flight.
My guide assures me it will not be a problem. I called USA office and they added a note. Unsure what to do.
Does anyone have experience with this requirement?

Post question here: accuratereloading.com This probably breaks some forum rules, but this bunch just isn't into hunting in Africa that much.

When I travel to africa I use the services of a rifle importer. makes the whole throng a lot easier. I have used http://riflepermits.com with great success. Well worth the 150 dollars.

I used a service in South Africa to do pre-approval rifle permit but this is not part of the service. This is a issue with the Airlines for in-country flight.

I finally reached the airline this morning. The reservation was confirmed. Better check for new regulations everytime you fly! Now there is a charge for South African Airlines for firearms transportation.
Also if you fly South African partner Airlink you need a rifle reservation. This is not the South African Police permit but a separate requirement.

I am not a member of any other site and so I posted here. And I talk to a lot of people on THF that hunt Africa. My guide has several people per year that book because of post on THF under outfitters.
Thanks. I like posting on THF. Quick and valuable responses.
Ready for Africa!

I've only hunted Africa twice, but I've also been to New Zealand ounce and Alaska 3 times. For place like Alaska, where you get into some really nasty conditions, having your own rifle is very important, but when going to Africa, it's not a big deal. The hunting is easier, more relaxed and you usually have plenty of time to evaluate the animal before shooting. They are out and about all day long, unlike here, where most shooting is at first light or last light. I borrowed a rifle to hunt in New Zealand because it was easier to travel around the country after the hunt, and that turned out fantastic, so when I went to Africa, part of booking the hunt was in finding out what they had for me to use there, and getting it included in the cost of the hunt. Ever outfitter that I talked to had very high quality rifles with Zeiss scopes. I'm not saying that the rifles that I borrowed are better then mine, but they did cost more money then what I have into mine!!! Accuracy was outstanding too.
I will not bring my own rifles to Africa. There isn't any reason to deal with getting them there and back home again.
Good friends spent half their safari in Namibia without their rifles, and even lost a day of hunting to go back to Windhoak to get them when they finally showed up a week later.
Africa is about having fun, and for me, borrowing a fancy European rifle for the hunt added to the fun of the trip.
