I have to agree with you there, Judd. Mine doesn’t dry as well either. I googled about it and there was some code (press certain buttons in a sequence) to get it to either get hotter or dry longer or something, but it still does a poor job of getting them dry. When I called, they said to use jet dry and it helped some, but my whirlpool never needed that and it dried things great. I mainly notice it on plastic cups that have a lip on them, but yeah after thinking about it, you are absolutely correct.

In the market for a new one as well. The GE we had didn't even make it 4 years (and in that time we had to have it fixed twice).

The service guy that came to try and fix the GE said Bosch and LG are pretty good but if they need to be fixed getting parts is almost impossible.
He also had nothing good to say about GE, Kitchen AId, Whirpool or any other brand that we used to think of as American made.
He told me to do more research on repairing the appliance rather than looking at which ones people liked because once they break down, and they eventually will, parts availability and cost becomes a big factor.

I’d like to add that after our last remodel, we had a water softener installed. The calcium in the water was very hard on our plumbing and the appliances that used water, dishwasher, washing machine, hot water heater, faucets and shower valves. The dishwasher, water heater, and dishwasher never lasted more than 4-5 years. All 3 have 7 years on them now.

We replaced our GE with a Maytag and it is terrible. It runs forever (over an hour) and most of the times the dishes are still dirty.

We've got a 10 or 12 year old Maytag. It's worked perfectly but it's always been loud!

Our KitchenAid is 19 yrs old now and it's not working so well lately. Like Western says, what's good years ago may not be good this year. I hate our Bosch washer and dryer.

Anything "old" is better than what is available now because of energy standards. Pick your brand. Per last repairman, just make sure you get a stainless liner for as dry of dishes as you can hope for.

When the non dish drying Whirlpool -- with a plastic tub -- I have now dies, hopefully tomorrow, I'll most likely get a Bosch. But I'll also likely check Consumer Reports for more confirmation.

On top of that, be careful on cost. They are all disposable now. Like the extended warranty thread on autos, appliances are all I buy one for now--I think up to five years. That warranty has paid for several ice makers.

I don't want to spend a grand on a dishwasher to chunk in five years. But somewhere between the cheapest and the best there may be a happy medium.

Our house came with Kitchenaid when we built….it gets used probably 5 days a week. They have cheap plastic racks that broke and I had to fix those after probably 3-4 years. Had to replace the whole unit after 6 years but went with another Kitchenaid so all the appliances match.

Appliance store guy told me Bosch are the best.

They told us the same thing about the jet dry rolleyes loco

I jinxed myself with the LG comment yesterday...I got home last nite and wife was running a load in the dishwasher...it has a squeal or whine that is real close to the tinnitus I fight some and I am about 90% sure I pinpointed it to the dishwasher bang

Bottomline, none of them are made like stuff 20 years ago and they are dang near all disposable.

So in other words try to snag one on sale for $500-600 vs paying $1,000+ for one because both are going to last and work about the same.

Usually they have the dB rating on each unit in store. That and the price is how I shopped for for our last unit.

Fond memories of what I believe was my wife getting put together on the previous one she bought
.
Goes into this appliance store (do not remember which one) looking at the different models and the female salesperson is selling her on this certain brand how quite, reliable and affordable it is.
Sales gal steps away and another gal about the same age walks up out of the blue comes up and says she bought one of the ones the sales gal was pushing and said it was the best dishwasher she ever had so the wife buys it.
4 or 5 years later we had to buy another new one bang I think those gals new each other and tagged teamed my wife nuts

yep, the sink. I never use mine any more. Of course it is just myself and the daughter. I run it about twice a year just to make sure it still works.

Did it just die or something isn't working? We have a Samsung 3-5 years old probably and starting getting error codes and it stopping. Took it apart, found the problem but it persisted. Turns out my wife had switched from detergent in the door thingy, to using the dissolvable pods. Switched back to detergent, problem went away, tried the pods again, problem came back. Still don't know how they were somehow the problem.

Error codes. Something about the drain. We use detergent - not pods. I took it completely apart and cleaned everything - from top to bottom. Drain line was also clear. I was convinced that would fix it. It cycled correctly once then back to what it was doing. I read where it's like the the control board going bad or a bad drain sensor. Either way I didn't have the time to get someone out there to try to fix it or the patience to try to fix it myself. Grabbed a new one Friday morning and put the old one up at the road with a note on it and it was gone in 30 minutes.

When my dad had his old style fixed the repair dude told him to keep fixing it and avoid the new computerized ones. Actually it was not broke. The original owners of the house had a switch installed for it and it was off. Who puts a switch on a DW?
