Okay, I know it's opening weekend. Any other year I would be ecstatic. However, the heat, plus the acorns, and hardly any bucks on camera yet has me highly discouraged and thinking maybe I should wait a weekend or two. But, I also know that just being out in God's country is better than not hunting at all. What are yall's thoughts about hunting this weekend? Going out or staying in?

One reason I don't pay much attention to my cameras any longer. There were days I should have been in the woods and I wasn't due to the activity on my camera. I still have them out but I am not burning up the roads every week to see what is on them. The weekends I can be at camp I go!

I am the same way after watching bucks in the feed pen in front of a camera and not get one picture of them. I had this new buck show up and jump into the feed pen to join some does and eat corn for about 25-30 minutes. I had the TC set on a minute or 1.5 minute delay and never got one photo of him I could identify him from. I got pictures of him with does in the way but could not tell it was a buck other than the stained hock. I had not been there that morning I would never have known the buck ever came onto my place. First time to see him and the last.
The last portion of the time he was in the pen he was alone. But he stayed around the outside edge of the pen eating corn. I always hunt no matter what I am seeing or don't see on the cams. If I know a buck is using a feeder from past seasons history and still around, I hunt that location. There have been time on opening day when the wind was just wrong for the spot so I sat back in the rifle blind to scout. Just to see how the deer approached and how the exited the feeder. Gained very valuable info.

Our deer are use to the heat. I'll be in a tree with bow in hand. Just takes one sit.

I have to be in New Orleans opening weekend, Tulane Homecoming and my Wife wants to see her friends.
Maybe The Commander's Palace will have something with venison.

But I am going the next weekend and that's also the opening of Duck Season.

You definitely won't see any bucks if you are not out there.

There's only 2 seasons in a year. Deer season and getting ready for deer season.

People have gotten too soft!
It's called hunting, not killing, and people put out cameras and sit back on their couches in the air conditioning, and watch hunting shows on TV because..... "Oh it's too hot!"
Really?......Now get out there and take in what nature gives you!

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Is the idea of potentially having your season essentially over in September unsettling to anybody, or is it just me? I'm on a new lease this year and have put in A LOT, of work over the summer. We are a two buck county, but have the typical lease rule of 1 trophy, 1 cull/management buck. If I were to take a trophy this weekend, my season is mostly over. Don't get me wrong, I'd be thrilled to take a trophy with my bow, but part of me thinks I'd be a little disappointed that I wouldn't get to enjoy the cool morning and afternoon sets later in the year (if it ever cools down) waiting for that trophy to show up.

Kill a trophy buck, and then sit, watch and enjoy the rest of the season with absolutely no pressure.

Cannot kill one from the couch.

STX made a good suggestion if nothing else scouting never hurts. If deer are not hitting feeders but acorns, find where they are liking those and hunt there. I have also watched deer at feeders that I never got a picture of but they were there.

Saw one 150 class buck at the lease for 3 years occasionally that I only gt one picture of and the cows had knocked the camera around so it was pointed away from the feeder. The times I saw him was never at the feeder. One afternoon ni bow season I watched him for over half an hour at about 140 yards from me standing in the brush watching the feeder.

happybday

I may make this a hunt & fishing trip being that I have a bow stand and feeder that is a 360 yard walk from the boat ramp. Thinking about hunting the first two hours then fish afterwards.

What you see on camera doesn’t mean there’s not many other deer that choose other feeding opportunities.

All good posts. Go if ya want, don’t if ya don’t.
No right or wrong, but won’t shoot one if not there.

Part of me wants to go, part of me doesent.

I put up a new blind and want to go see what’s going on there since I didn’t put up a camera at that location.

I have this place mainly for the kids. I’ve told myself it would have to be either an axis, a cull ( which we have several that fit that description) or a bonafide monster for me to loose an arrow. Last year we had a nice buck comming into a stand that I could have killed, I passed on him and my wife killed him a week before thanksgiving. Meant way more to her than it would have me

So long story short, I want to go but there isn’t a lot of motivating factors to go sweat it out.
