Previously (3 years ago), I tried out some Berger VLD-Hunting 130 gr. for my 6.5 Grendel. They did not perform as advertised at Grendel velocities, but they were an outstanding hog killing bullet. Now, I am trying out Berger's AR Hybrid OTM 130 gr. loaded for me by Custom Reloads of Dallas. As they list it as a tactical/competition round, I didn't find any specific information from Berger on its actual terminal performance in animals. My one previous use of this bullet was on a coyote and the bullet performed well, exiting with a larger permanent wound channel. https://texashuntingforum.com/forum...rd-berger-ar-hybrid-otm-ammo#Post7613114It is not tough to kill coyotes, however, and during that hunt I lost an opportunity to shoot a good-sized hog that I really wanted to use to test the bullet's performance. So I returned last night and found the same hog on a different part of the property. My initial impression of the bullets' performance as CRD loaded them is excellent. Accuracy wise, both rounds impacted where intended. The first round passed through the neck directly behind the skull and under the spine, leaving a gaping exit wound, not just through the musculature, but in the hide as well, which I find very impressive. The hog went down, but was not out, the bullet not actually directly impacting any vital structures. A finishing shot entered and exited the skull with a portion of the bullet being recovered in the neck. Hopefully, I will get to test this round on more hogs soon, but so far, I have no complaints about its terminal performance.

Them there piggies are some tough customers! The punishment they can absorb and still move around continues to amaze me. One would think that just the hydraulic shock associated with that first shot would have put him down for the count. Good work; and keep on working them!

LOL, need more hogs from which to derive said data. I will try again, this evening. This boar, however, was on a property that has been free of hogs for many weeks. I was really surprised to one there. I keep checking it because it is such a pleasant property to hunt. There is no high grass anywhere and about 2/3 of the property can be scanned from the barnyard. The other 1/3 can be scanned on the drive in to it. As the property falls away from the barnyard, approaches for most of the shooting are downhill with little chance of rounds going off property. It is just a wonderful place to hunt...which hogs are present.

After watching this video, I think I will use a .308.

Don't think a 308 would have done any better wit the same bullet path.

I use the 130 grain Berger VLD Hunting projectiles in a Thermal Scoped AR10 ,260 Caliber. It puts Hogs DOWN, Fast and Hard.

That 130 grain AR Hybrid is looking good! It's doing well in the 6.5 Grendel!
Great video as always!
