Sounds about what the going rate is on whitetails pedestals depending on whether they wrap the tanned hide around back of the mount or do a leather cover to hide the board the form is mounted to. Become a taxi and see what all is entailed in doing a mount these days. I know mine is going up this year on all his mounts, first time in 4 yrs that I have been using him. Good taxidermy work takes time and experience, so that is going to cost you more. Cheap mounts look cheap and don't look very good for long...I know I had a bunch of cheap ones done 25-30 yrs ago.

Does that include the pedestal? If so that’s a pretty good price.

Those prices are right in line. I mount 50 or so heads a year and charge $675 for a whitetail pedestal and $750 for axis. After tanning and supply’s taxidermist don’t make what most people think not to mention their time.

No. Just the "wall pedestal shoulder mount". Pedestals can add a little, or a bunch to the cost depending on the pedestal you choose. Scroll down to the fifth post on the thread I linked. The pedestal is distressed mesquite on hidden wheels. Plus with the extras on top, I want to say that pedestal was more than the shoulder mount.

Neal Coldwell outside of Kerrville just gave my son a price of $495 for an axis wall pedestal with either hide or leather on the back side. He has about 100 mounts to look at while you're there.

Taxidermy pricing is all over the place, I recommend checking out the taxidermist , look at their work and make your own decision.

It's your mount and your money you should spend it when and where you want.

We get 725.00 for whitetail shoulder mount 750.00 for Axis 12-14 mos turn around

I have not seen a cheap mount yet that looked good. Truth is, I see a lot of going-rate ones that don’t look too good either. Good taxidermists are like good barbers - when you find one stick with them.

Correction.... my guy is $350 for a shoulder mount and does great work.
I'm sure demand in Texas is higher thus the ability to charge more.
