If you like to read, and if you have not discovered Robert Crais, you need to get with the program. I’m reading the latest, A Dangerous Man. Buy it and discover Joe Pike, who might just be as tough as Jack Reacher, and we all know how tough Reacher is.

Oxner, who is your favorite tuff guy? I know you read a lot.

Glad you asked. Love Elvis Cole, who is Pike's partner. Just finished one of his older books. They had to use pay phones. Where The Crawdads Sing is a great book that I'm now reading for the second time. I'm also reading Chicken Scratch which I free off book Bud.

Yep! Elvis Cole is the supremely cool guy we wish we were, and Joe Pike (former USMC Recon) is the tough guy we all want to be, and as handsome as we once were.

I have started my last book thread on THF because of the trolling.

One of my favorite Texas authors is Mark Giminez.

I read these before I got my Kindle. Another one of his books was about a Longhorns quarterback accused of killing a Red Radar cheerleader. Another texas author is the one who wrote The Last Pitcher Show.

youre not alone. Im not "well read" but I read and all the other stuff applies. I just started reading a couple years ago and really enjoy it. Daughter gave me Crais and I haven't read but ill start now. Reading Joe Dillard series now. Love Spencer too but theres like 70 of em. Of course I would never read anything but Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch if that was still going.

So what got me on your list? Virgil and Everett? Spencer?
I read To Kill a Mockingbird and Old Yeller when I was VERY young. About the last books(and only) I read till recently. Coincidentally I just picked up an old copy of To Kill a Mockingbird in a antique store a few days ago. Seen a couple True Grit movies, so still need to read it huh.

I am definitely a Virgil Cole and Everett Hitch fan. As for Robert Crais, get a copy of The Watchman. It’s Joe Pike all the way. A heck of a ride. Starts fast and accelerates.

A couple of months ago I gave the Head Tennis coach a Jack Reacher novel. Since then he bought every Reacher book there is and cussed me for his new addiction.

I was just hassling you guys. Surely Bill and I aren’t the only suave and handsome fellows in this mob.

I've really enjoyed the Trail series of westerns by David R. Lewis.

Thanks for the reading selections. Love it when new "characters" arise out of the forum pages.

Well, if you guys want BAD, look for Tom Wood’s novels about an assassin named Victor. Those are truly worth a read. I can’t wait for the next one. Sort of an anti-hero that you grow to like.

Also, Orphan X novels are top notch.

I can't believe that with all the Longhorn fans on here no one will read the Mark Gimenez book about the murder of a Red Raider cheerleader at Memorial stadium.

If a fellow can read about Joe Pike, why read about cheerleaders. I just finished A Dangerous Man, and it was good to the very last page. That’s the good news. The bad news is that I finished the book, and I don’t want it to be over.

This book goes on the bookshelf, and in a few years I’ll read it again. Some I don’t loan out or give away.

Long live Joe Pike.

Love Louis L'lamour. Think I have all of his books and short stories. Posted a few excerpts over the years.

You really should bite the bullet and read Lomesome Dove. It's the best western I've read.

Give me the Matt Helm series by Donald Hamilton any day. Nothing to do with the horrible Dean Martin parodies about it. First book came out in 1960 or so and the last was in the 2002 or so. Secret agent stuff although Hamilton did write some westerns.

Big Robert Crais fan and y'all listed several other my other favorite authors.

Thanks for the good suggestions mentioned. Will check them out.

Michael Connelly, David Baldacci and Stephen Hunter are other favorites of mine.

I read a ton now. I can’t imagine how much I will read when I retire. I’ll be just like Bill I reckon. up

Try John Vaillant’s “The Tiger” and “The Golden Spruce”.

P.S. My wife and I both loved “Where The Crawdads Sing”.
