A friend got this cheap (he says), if it works that is. An expensive paperweight if not.
The only identifying markings are on the mount.
96214ASSY3252638 1X4M7 X
But that might be only the mount.
I tried Googling this ID and got nothing related to thermal scopes.
I'm gonna try to attach pics. Haven't had much luck in past.
Here goes nothing. Well it says there are four attached so I'll pull the trigger and see.
Thanks,
MM

I believe I would delete this post and hope not too many people saw it.

Looks like a Raytheon thermal sight developed for the military.

I'm pretty sure 1X4M7 is a CAGE code assigned by the DOD Defense Logistics Agency.

I'm with everyone else.... IF this is something from the DOD, you don't want it in your possession. I'd take it back where I got it and wouldn't even be upset if I didn't get my money back. I spoke to a government official a few years and at the time there was( and I'm sure there still is), a list of serial numbers of thermal and NV optics that were known to be stolen from various agencies of the DOD. It was a huge list too. The consequences for having one of those in your possession ain't good.....

Well there you go. I was at work and didn't have time to look it up but figured it was a CAGE based on the sequence.

Yep, I found that when some of the guys pointed out that it was probably a CAGE code. I hadn't thought of that. The part number points at a mount for an AN/PAS-13 but I can't find anything designated AN/PAS-13 that looks remotely like it. On closer inspection, it seems that the identifying label is gone. I seem to remember that id tags on military equipment were metal and riveted on but that was in the 60's. There are some civilian versions of the AN/ PAS-13 but I couldn't find any that looked like it. I also don't see any military applications that use the 123A batteries. They use super expensive, super long lasting (as they should be) rectangular batteries. It could be an early prototype that wandered out of the factory. I figured that some of our recent veterans might have "seen the elephant" through one like it and could identify it. I think I might just return it to the guy who owns it and let him figure out if he can get his money back or dunk it in the lake as a trotline weight. Or he could call Hetty Lang and turn it in. I like that character. It doesn't appear to be working anyhow or I'm not smart enough to make it work. This is the first thermal I have handled. He brought it for me to look at 'cause he thought I was smarter than he was. Guess I fooled him, huh?
Thanks for all the good info and the gorilla vid. That ape had a good arm and a pretty good aim. He must practice a lot. I think I'll stay away from the zoo.
Regards,
M

I guess I’m not understanding some of yalls posts. How is it illegal to own Raytheon thermal? Buddy of mine since high school owns ident marking and they will sell you Raytheon thermal all day long.

Several years back he bought 2 or 3 pallets full of them... from Raytheon if my memory is correct.

I don't think anyone is saying it's illegal to own a Raytheon thermal. I think they're saying it's illegal to own a Raytheon thermal that was DOD-issued and "misappropriated".

My bad then, TX_LT230FH. I was going off of Adchunts post below. The W1000-9 is definitely a thermal scope built by Raytheon specifically for the military.

I know a guy who had two men from NCIS knock on his door 2 weeks after trying to sell a NV with no brand on ebay. It was only listed for a few hours. Ad was pulled and he sold it locally.
