Yes, it will work to level the reticle. But you have to make sure the firearm is perfectly level, as well as the scope tube. I have seen some reticles slightly canted from the scope body. If you dial for elevation, level the scope body. If you plan to hold using the reticle, level the reticle. (Or just send the scope back!)

That is a pretty cool method. I generally find it challenging to methodically ensure the rifle is level during this process.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

I think most would be surprised as to how much a scope (reticle) can be canted when fighting the screws
hold on Newt, we got a runaway

I don't see how that's a valid method unless you made sure the rifle was level too. That opens up another whole can of worms in itself. Focusing on leveling the reticle to the rifle is missing some context.
I'd venture to say most horizontal errors not attributed to wind are a function of rifle cant..... not reticle cant. This is a combination of the rifle not being set up properly for the shooter, and the shooter not having the right form. Therefore, a much better methodology to follow would be to properly set your rifle up for your natural point of aim. Then while you're behind the rifle holding it in that natural point of aim, level the reticle to the fall of gravity (plum bob string at 100 yards.)
