There's been a few rams hanging around his area but I'd yet to see him this year. He stepped out today and had 3 ewes and 6 lambs with him. Seems he'd been busy over the summer. I had pretty much gave up on him making it through the season, leave this ranch and there's a good chance of getting shot. Would like to have got a better pic but they were a ways off.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Is this a ranch you have a oil lease on ?
I can’t imagine seeing those sheep and not grabbing a rifle and taking off after them
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I can’t imagine seeing those sheep and not grabbing a rifle and taking off after them It's a family ranch they've had it well over 100 years, 32 sections on the big ranch and several unattached sections both in the nth and southern end of the county. Most of my time is spent on the big ranch trying to keep all the wells running. They own the surface the minerals and we do our own drilling and production. I was the first person to see an Aoudad on the ranch back in 2007 and since then I've got to watch them migrate from one side to the other following the hills. Back in 94 I leased a place just east of Coahoma, it was twelve sections following the Cap Rock, 3 of my hunters took Aoudad Rams in a 2 year period, I didn't even know we had Aoudad in the county until then, from there to here is about 20 miles. My best estimate is we now have 5 separate groups with a dozen are more and a half dozens young rams just running all over. I've been watching them so long I'm pretty sure I couldn't pull the trigger. Would I go on an Aoudad hunt you damn right, just not my Aoudad, they're safe on the ranch, Mule deer should be showing up soon I'm seeing them 5 miles nth of the ranch.

Have heard the Aoudad is not good to eat, is this so? Is having one mounted the main reason to shoot one?

I would like to explore those caves. Bet there are some good artifacts around there. Howard County is full of artifacts. Good place to find Paleo artifacts but they also have some of the same points/artifacts you would find if you were looking around Central Texas (Darl, Ensor, Montell, Pedernales, Bulverde, Castroville, Perdiz, etc).

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Have heard the Aoudad is not good to eat, is this so? Is having one mounted the main reason to shoot one? My stepdad shot one in 1997 ( a full grown ewe )and we cooked it and ate it. Around 2004 I finally got the taste out of my mouth. I’m sure the smaller ewes and kids are palatable to a person who knows what they are doing. But 99% of rams are taken for trophies

That spot almost identical to the place where La Bamba took Topper Harley, his brother, Jack Bauer, and a few other no-names on their peyote trip in Young Guns. Maybe Curly Bill disappeared to the Spirit World with them?

That is some beautiful country, Decades ago I used to have to go to Big Spring every couple of months, always wondered what those mountains looked like up close, just never took the time do a map look to see.
