The children in my neighborhood are playing in the ditches.. Even the ones with backyard pools. Brings back some of my best childhood memories. A couple rigged up a garbage can lid with a rope. Did you?

When our son was growing up, sometimes when it rained I made simple boats out of 1x2's and 1x4's for all of the kids in the neighborhood. There would be a lot of kids chasing small pieces of wood as the little boats floated in the gutter.

When we were kids we made our boats out of thin wood from apple crates. We would have a slot in the back where we have a paddle that was wrapped with a rubber band. They had good speed as long as the rubber band was wound up. The good days.

I remember when I was a kid in Clyde Texas and we would swim in the ditches. We also saved the tadpoles and moved them from water hole to water hole as they dried up.

My dad would also tie a rope to a inner tube when it iced on the roads and would pull us with his truck. It was awesome but got sketchy when he stopped, you had to evacuate

Yep, I would love it when the ponds would overflow. We would run around, and save all the catfish, and crawfish we could. Man good times.
