WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Gunmaker Colt says it is suspending its production of rifles for the civilian market including the popular AR-15.

Colt’s chief executive officer, Dennis Veilleux, says it is not permanently ending production but believes there is already an adequate supply of sporting rifles on the market. Veilleux said in the statement the company remains committed to the Second Amendment and is adapting to consumer demand.

Well bye Colt! It’s stupid that you can make a AR in the state of CT buy can’t own it unless you have a license and owned it before 1993. F Colt, CT, NY, and CA I have no need for them!

Not that I agree with colt on this decision by any means, but doesn’t most of their money come from military contracts anyways and therefore they could just as easily claim that are discontinuing private sales production due to lost revenue? Just a question.

Hopefully some Python owners will see the light and trash dump Colt and their anti-2a revolvers. PM me for disposal instructions.

They lost the battle with companies like Palmetto State Armory. Other companies tooled up specifically for AR's and they couldn't compete.

Will this be like the Yeti/NRA fiasco last year, with people blowing up their Colt firearms?

It was a financial decision and has nothing to do with Colt wanting to deny their products to consumers.

Agree.

Colt can make more money from government contracts than competing with the entry level ARs like Palmetto, Ruger, etc. .

So.....if Colt is the only real mfg of AR-15s and owner of the AR-15 trademark then when they stop there won't be any AR-15s for sale. flehan

I think this has a lot to do with it.

I understand that. But it appears that some here believe that Colt is caving in to the anti-gunners.

^^Right

Ford quit building cars, except for the Mustang, because their other cars weren't selling.

This has already happed before by Colt as well as many other manufactures. Their military contracts are the backbone of the company and if they are falling behind and the civilian market is soft, which for AR's it is, stop selling to civilians. This has all happened before and nobody batted an eye, but the media is blowing this up with headlines about it and making it something it's not. Nothing to see here but more fake news from the liberal media due to the recent gun control debates.

Most likely an economic decision.

To be determined
