A buddy and I got drawn for a Deer Management hunt the first week in December. We are actually shocked because we only had 1 point and were not expecting to be drawn. This will be his first drawn hunt so it should be fun.
I have read the few post I could find (only can search the past year), but if anyone has any pointers I would appreciate it.
I am liking compartments 5,6,9,& 10 from what I can find. I plan to bring corn and a pop-up blind. I also have already spoke to the park and will be bringing my camper (small) to stay in.... can you tell I am excited?

I will be there with my daughter on a youth management hunt on Nov 16-17. If it stays really dry, the corn should really bring in the deer and other animals. Most of the compartments have 1 to 2 deer blinds on them. If it rains when you are there then 4 WD may be necessary. You will see plenty of animals as long as the weather cooperates!

I have hunted the James Daughtrey a few times. All the compartments are good as far as seeing animals. It changes from year to year as far as which compartment is seeing the most deer. Compartment 1 might have a lot of bucks being seen in 2018 but in 2019 it may not have as many bucks. But you will see something to shoot if you hunt your compartment right.

I heard they have to be a certain age class of buck in order to harvest is that true? Just asking because I have put in for that draw many times.

I hunted hogs and javelina last February.
I hunted compartment 9 if memory is correct.
You go from the check in, thru Tilden, then back across the lake to get to it.
I shot a hog and a javelina.
They had real nice senderos.
I awesome blind with windows.
And 2 other open top blinds.
I saw javelina,hogs,turkey,quail,green jays,and some does.
Really enjoyed the hunt.

Management hunt is 1 doe and 1 buck that is 7 points or under with a 12" spread or unbranched antler

General deer either is 8 point or more with a 14" spread or the same guidelines as management

I guess that I'll be seeing some of you on the 12/03-12/05 hunt. I was also lucky enough to draw.

That’s awesome. We are planning on staying at the campsite since I have a small trailer that will fit in the spot. Have you ever hunted there?

I've never hunted there either, but I've heard a bunch of good things about the area. I'm also planning on bringing a travel trailer, but I'm not sure about whether it's best to dry camp onsite or use the campground at Choke Canyon. I was planning on asking the local TP&W team when I get a chance to call.

Syncerus- I called and asked them if I could bring my trailer and they said it was fine as long as it’s a smaller trailer. They have a couple pull through spots also. When I called, I spoke with Sam- he was very helpful and very polite. We will be getting there the afternoon before and he said that was fine

Staying at Choke Canyon SP and it’s a really pretty place. There are deer all over the place.
I think I will have to come back here with the family at some point.

My friend and I just got back from the management hunt. No complaints at all other than the orientation process, it was touch long but it is what it is. We both killed a spike and a doe on the first hunt, and saw numerous deer including 6 really nice bucks - one was a very impressive 10pt. Overall a GREAT experience, I'd go back in a heartbeat if lucky enough to be drawn!

Cabins are nice, few too many mice.
