Top pic makes me think 4 yr old but bottom pic makes me think a 3 yr old.
As far as score goes, Im not the best but he will be in the 140s.

I was thinking 4 and upper 140's with the extra point he has. He'll be good in a year.

Low 150's. That extra point adds up big. Bet here with that curve it least counts for 8. Let us know if he goes down on the ground.

Old enough and I disagree with the crowd. Be lucky to make the 140's imo. Still a great deer

Doesn't have the hanging brisket like some other pictures that have been posted so I'm thinking 4 but with that much character, it wouldn't take me long to pull the trigger. What are the chances that extra beam comes back next year?

x3. Someone left you a present!!! He might not have tons of length but mass and extra points will add up to 150 easily IMO.

I'm always trying to learn and get better about aging deer. So I'm curious as to how those calling this deer 5 are reaching that conclusion? Typical things I look for in a mature deer - sagging brisket, swayed back, large belly, shorter looking legs, roman nose, none of these are present in this deer. Are most just going off of his rack? Which is awesome, btw! If you were to see this deer below the rack, what would you age it at? My guess is this deer is 3, maybe 4.

I would still call it five....... there is not much difference in body size more times than not between a 4 and a 5......the traits you describe are deer 6+ for the most part.

Thanks for the reply Pitchfork. What traits should I be looking at to distinguish 4's and 5's from 3's? What were your keys in determining 5 on the deer above? Not debating here, just trying to get better at this.

Look at the width in-between the front shoulders from the front of his brisket on Texas deer. If you can stick two fists side by side in-between the legs and not touch the legs or barely touch them he is at least a 5 yr old. This buck has a lot of width in the brisket. He has the bottom jawline of a mature buck, more pronounced. His eyes appear more "squinty" than round also which is a sign of being mature. Sagging brisket is not as important as a saggy belly or a belly line that starts in front of the shoulders and ends behind the rear legs...if will be level and not look like a thoroughbred horse bellyline. Not all mature bucks(5 or older)have shorter looking legs or a "sway back". A roman nose is nothing more than a buck that has broken the nose and that can happen at any age. The nose/forehead will look stubber and wider as the buck ages.

Very good information here. Hopefully I'll get to take a look at him at 25 yards on 9/28 for further verification.
