Yesterday my 20 year old Grandson, his best friend and the friends girl friend showed up to fill feeders. They told me they didn’t need my help. They went to the fed store and got corn with their money. They came back, fired up the tractor with loader, jumped on my 4 wheelers and headed out. I sat on my butt in the AC, watched a Western on Grit channel, took a nap and they finally returned. 6 feeders, one got moved and I did nothing.

My Grandson started hunting with me when he was 5. We sat in a stand. He had his BB gun and I had my 30-06. He got to take the first shot. If it wasn’t a clean kill, I had to finish them off. He legitamely took his first deer , a cull, when he was 7. 2 years later the other kid, with his Dad showed up. He also got hooked on hunting. I’ve enjoyed kinda raising those 2 about wildlife, raising fish and farm equipment.

I guess they can take it from here.

Age does have its privileges. Sounds like great kids that were raised right and it shows.

You did it right and to you go the spoils. If my grandson does half of that down the road, I'll be a happy man. Hats off to you.

Makes me happy that another generation is interested in doing the things I had fun doing as a kid. My oldest daughter hasn’t figured out the “fun” in hunting and she is 10, much less any work.. The youngest at 3 can’t stop talking about going to do ”work” at the lease. She can’t do much but wants to drive 4 hours each way to help, even if she wears a snowman hat....

Over the years, there have been other kids. The rest decided it wasn’t for them. One was more interested in managing the ponds and the fish. He is now at TAMU majoring in wild life and pond management. I know some of his professors. He told me about something one of them said that was nuts. I told him to tell the Prof that I disagreed and why. The Prof called me and we had a spirited disagreement. His point worked in East Texas but not in West Texas due to soil differences that affect water productivity that could lead to fish kills. The kid told me that the Prof did tell them about our difference of opinion.

Good stuff guys, neat to see the kiddos get the bug to hunt and enjoy the outdoors

I was just having this conversation with my brother... his boys are 9 and mine is 5 in 2 weeks. Couple more years and those feed sacks are gonna move a lot easier!
