I got a 2008, I’ve had since new. 235k miles. My daughter drives it.
Very few problems in 11 years. None, until recently.

Looking for a new car for wife. Obviously 2020 4Runner was a first choice. Test drove a limited 4wd drive.
It was nice, but really few interior advances in 10 years. The 2020 will have Apple car play.

Wife wants more luxury, so we’re waiting for 2020 Lexus Rx350. Because 2019 don’t have car play.

But have no complaints against 4Runner, except it’s features are pretty basic.

I don't mind the power, and I think it has decent acceleration. I have a 19 off road premium. I like it, but I hate the lack of interior amenities. No cooled seats is huge. You get a lot of trade off to be able to off road. The roll down back window is legit.
I love how mods are bountiful for it, but they're retardedly expensive.
I just returned from Nashville today. All highway in between 75-78 was cruise average and got 20.2. I'm completely stock too. I get 18 mixed.

I bought it bc I needed to get out of my truck. It's the #1 resale value vehicle in the u.s., so not a bad buy. I'm probably going to get rid of it this next summer though bc I like cooled seats way too much.

We rented one in Sedona. I liked it until we got on the highway, it struggled bad. Great vehicle for running around town or exploring some trails.

Very small for somebody of your stature

If they made one with a manual transmission, I’d have one.

WAIT, I have been swapping emails with Terry Box, Car Pros.com

He said they were due next year 2121 for a "renew" with MORE POWER, updated body-style.

The current 4 runner is TIRED and wore out, wait for the refresh.

My bride has one, and loves it. 2017 Limited. I really enjoy driving it. It will turn on a dime and give you change.

Off the line is does decent. Set the cruise on 70 or 75 and it might downshift on hills. I'm spoiled to my Cummins, it does not do that without a trailer. So, I would like the 4-Runner to have some more horse power, that is the only gripe I have. We plan to keep it in the family for 250,000 or more, and they reportedly will do it. She does complain about the lack of interior features.

Like my 2018. It's good for what I use it for. It's 4WD, so I hope to keep it and move it into hunting rig role down the line.

They are basic. I was surprised they don't even have a "windshield wash low" light, but, I remember when there was no such thing as windshield wash. grin

We bought a 2019 SR5 Premium back in May. We mainly drive in town and are getting 19 mpg (2 wheel drive). Acceleration can be good if you floor it, but we do not unless necessary in order to keep the mpg low. Like others have said the interior is not up to speed with other models, but since we only buy a new vehicle every 5-10 years we don't mind much as it's still an upgrade from the 2008 F-150 it replaced. My only complaint is AC, not as strong as other Toyota's I've had. It will still cool you down, but you must start off on high.

Gas milage is around 19 MPG around town and 22 MPG on the interstate. We have a 2003 and 2011 and so far they are very solid vehicles. I pull a Champion 188 DCX with no problem with the 2003 and the 2001 is a big upgrade from it.

They say in 2021 will be a new generation. A lot of people are afraid that they will lose the truck frame though. It's purely speculation, but we wont know until a year from now.

I have found out that they will not put the v8 back in the 4runner, they did that with the 4th gens and it hurt Lexus' sales. So if you want a v8, buy a Lexus.

For those that are looking at the 4 Runner for everyday use and do not plan to use as a hard core off road vehicle, you might want to take a look at the Honda Pilot, 2w & 4w versions. More room, better mileage, several levels of interior tech, smoother ride, more horses, choice of 9 speed or 6 speed. Do not misunderstand I am a Toyota fan just not as much as I use to be. Wife's Pilot has the 9 speed & gets 29-31 on the highway, 26-28 day in & day out.

I am on my 4th (2019 AWD Limited 4Runner). They ate basically bullet-proof SUBs. But my wife’s 2019 Highlander has more get up and go.

I have a '93 with 250k at the ranch. Wife will not give up her 2002 with 275k. They're unbreakable. Gas mileage is 16 all day long. Not sure on the new ones.

we've had an '06 and a '12 4Runner Limited 2wd, my wife loved both of them and they were great vehicles and extremely dependable. Last year when we were looking at upgrading, there hadn't been any noticeable improvements for the '18/'19 that were on the lot. I'm 6'3" and driving for any length of time killed my back, limited leg room and the center console angles from top to bottom eating into floor space if you want to pull your right foot back while running on cruise, threw my hip into a weird angle. I would have bought another one had they opened up the driver's area with more leg or foot space. Our '12 was consistently around 17.5-18.0 mpg for my wife's around town (majority) driving and open highway with cruise speed limit +/-5 mph was 21-22 mpg. We towed several small trailers without heavy loads and it pulled fine, even pulled our wakeboard boat (~5k lbs) on a number of occasions on 200 mile round trip, fuel mileage dropped to 13-15 mpg towing that heavy load.

We looked for a suitable replacement that still had the 5K towing capability and narrowed it down to the Highlander and Chevy Traverse, ended up with the Traverse and have been real happy with it so far other than towing our wakeboat, it pulls it fine but the uni-body construction I just notice so much more including noises that translate from the boat trailer directly into the body. As stated, we would have stuck to the 4runner but I can't stand to drive 2.5-3 hours to our daughter/SILs house without taking a break or two during the drive. I waited until the '19s hit before making the decision in hopes they corrected the driver's seating area. FWIW, I was much more comfortable riding in the back seat than the driver's seat from a pure comfort standpoint.

The Highlanders are nice. Way more room than it appears from the outside.

Boss has one. It rides nice. She hasn't had any trouble out of it, think its a 15 or 16 model. I have driven it a bit on work trips. It is quiet and smooth but feels a little lacking in get up and go to me.

Soccer mom ride, how do you easily haul dead deer, fishing poles, bags of feed, etc in a SUV? I am saying "easy" because being able to throw stuff in a pickup bed is.

I’d rather have a 4Runner and a trailer than a shortbed pickup and a trailer.

Had an 06, my parents have it now. It’s the same as the Tacoma, not a lot of features but it’s a solid, reliable vehicle that is more capable off road than most, if not all, other suv’s. It’s a proven vehicle.

Why?

LOL other than just making a statement I gotta ask why too!

Ive haled a 14-foot jon boat in my 5'7" ram bed. I mean its not as nice as the 8-foot box but my old crew cab long bed didn't fit in parking garages, turn for chit, or get 30 mpg either.

Your allowed to have your opinions and I’m allowed to have mine.

I had a Yukon for a while, absolutely no possible way I’ll be towing 5,000 lbs with a mini truck platform.

Oh heck im not trying to take your opinion away just curious. grin Ive towed our 7,300 lb camper with my mini truck just fine, no doubt the dirtymax or 6.7 cummins does a better job though.

Ive never had trouble putting a deer in the bed of my mini truck and I figure the short bed makes my package look bigger lol All in good fun.
