Headed there tomorrow for the weekend. Had an offshore trip scheduled on Saturday in Miami but I think the weather is gonna prevent that. Which blows [censored] cuz this was a fishing trip.

Never been though and I’ll be with the lady. Any recommendations on food/things to do in the area?

Friend of mine lives there and he catches all kind of fish from the canals that run everywhere. Get after some peacocks and snake heads.

Well, apparently you don't want to go swimming in the ocean right now:

...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING...

* TIMING... Through at least Saturday evening.

* IMPACTS...Life threatening rip currents will pose a hazard to
swimmers. Heed the advice of lifeguards. Swimming is not
recommended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

There is a high risk of rip currents.

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore, which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins, jetties
and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags and
signs.

Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and
float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a
direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the
shore and call or wave for help.

Jaxon's Ice Cream Parlor. http://jaxsonsicecream.com/

It's right next to the airport.

I have a hard time recommending something to do because frankly, outside of boating I found South Florida boring. Miami Beach is cool to go to though.

Be very careful. Went swimming in around the same location as Ft Lauderdale and almost drowned. There were no lifeguards. I new to swim sideways with the current and got to shore. 100% correct it would have been a silent drowning, I was 40 yards from my friend and started to go under, he never knew untiil I told him later. I looked at him and could not yell, I just went under from panic.
Very scary.
Be safe be smart.

My wife really liked the Las Olas area (lots of shopping, restaurants and bars).

Have a friend with a condo on Pompano Beach (north of Fort Lauderdale) and enjoyed going there in February.

When he was young, I told Dale Jr. that hunting and racing are a lot alike. Holding that steering wheel and holding that rifle both mean you better be responsible.

Nice dolphin fish. We found schools of them along weed lines of SLP.
