Anybody here have any shooting history with a Dragunov? Just what level of accuracy is possible with it?
I’m reading Stephen Hunter’s newest Bob Lee Swagger (aka Bob the Nailer) novel. He is apparently going after a fellow sniper that uses the rifle.
Swagger is supposedly based loosely on Carlos Hathcock.

Checkout military arms channel on YouTube.
He did an accuracy test on one, and compared it to a psl and vepr.
Most people claim they are 1-2 moa guns.
I’d love a real svd tiger, they have gone nuts lately.
Psl isn’t a dragunov

The Russian military has established accuracy standards that the SVD and its corresponding sniper grade ammunition have to meet. Manufacturers must perform firing tests to check if the rifles and sniper grade ammunition fulfill these standards. To comply to the standards, the SVD rifle with 7N1 sniper cartridges may not produce more than 1.24 MOA extreme vertical spread with 240 mm twist rate barrels and no more than 1.04 MOA extreme vertical spread with 320 mm twist rate barrels. When using standard grade 57-N-323S cartridges, the accuracy of the SVD is reduced to 2.21 MOA extreme vertical spread. The extreme vertical spreads for the SVD are established by shooting 5-shot groups at 300 m range. The accuracy requirements demanded of the SVD with sniper grade ammunition are similar to the American M24 Sniper Weapon System with M118SB cartridges (1.18 MOA extreme vertical spread) and the M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System with M118LR ammunition (1.27 MOA extreme vertical spread).

Got to shoot one in another life. (Back when I wasn't half blind and could still shoot). It was definitely a minute of a man rifle at 500m. The one I shot was as capable as any M14/M21 I used. I personally found it a bit clumsy to carry thru the bush. Though I must admit, I didn't get that much trigger time behind one.

JESmith, your real world info is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. And, obviously, you were in the bushes with the rifle in service of your country, so I thank you for that also.

My 2 cents... It is an interesting war relic. Apples to apples - today I would much rather have an AR10.

I actually had a true Draguov Tiger. One of 800 imported to US.
Wish I didn't get rid of it, long story and money was not the reason. I actually went deer hunting with it and shot a doe.
Had everything, cleaning kit, scope, bayonet..etc. true collector.

My old boss when I was in the AF had one. I shot it once at the range and have been looking for one ever since (more than 10 years ago). I have shot a lot and this rifle was very impressive. It felt like a point and shoot, could not miss. Granted we were limited to 200 yards.... I still fell in love with it.
