So booked a place for Friday evening near lake pflugerville area, this is will be first hunting trip ever. Really want to try it out this year. Looking at picking up a Stoeger M3000 today, I have my licence and completed my hunters education so im good with that. What shells should I get for the shotgun? So lets see how it goes and hopefully i get hooked on hunting like I did with fishing.

#7 1/2 shot or #8 will work just fine for dove. shoot either an improved cylinder or modified choke out of your gun.

Good luck and have fun! I shot a milo field out in Hutto and did pretty good. I was using #8 with a Modified choke.

Take a good chair or bucket, preferably swivel. Also take plenty of water or refreshments and find a shady spot. And most importantly when birds are flying toward you stay as still as possible until the time you plan to shoot. The dove have incredible eye sight and detect any movement and will flare on you especially since they have already come under fire for a couple weeks now. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips everyone, im really excited and nervous at the same time. Not originally being from here a lot of my learning is from this forums and you tube but never doing this before has my confidence low lol. None the less just to outdoors is what i love even when i catch nothing fishing nothing beats it.

Good luck. First shot I ever took it dropped the bird and then chased it around for 30 minutes! Tip, just shoot it on the ground! grin

Take some bug spray, never know when there may be chiggers or other undesirables. Good to be in some drab colors , camouflage to blend in with environment. Watch the bird movement - if the area you are in is slow, move to area (if possible given other hunters) where flyway is better. Good luck

That's the field. It's a private field, shoot me a PM.

Here is my last trip out, didn't limit but still good shooting.

*update*

Just got back from going on my first hunt and I had a great time. Thanks to AustinBush for taking me out and showing me some tips. Managed to get 3 but I suck at shooting birds and could have had more lol Like they say practice makes perfect, being able to hang out and bs and shoot some birds was all I could have asked for. Hope for many more hunts, thanks again AustinBush hope to get out there again.

O yeah sorry for all the questions
