I bought 2 rifles from a THF member and I've had them for 1 week. I know I should have inspected them better but didn't. I found the Remington CDL was rusted in the chamber and has pitting so this rifle was in this condition way before I purchased it. I contacted the seller and he said it was my fault and offered to refund 100 dollars. My question is how should I peruse a resolution with the seller.[Linked Image][Linked Image]

Take his $100, use it to help fix your mistake, and move on.

Take the $100, seems he's trying to work with you.

Consider it lesson learned, always inspect to the best of your ability before the money changes hands.

If the putting is as bad as the picture show it to be he still could have not been aware of it. If the $100 does not satisfy you then just take your lumps and make a note to self to inspect the item better when you buy it. Don’t buy from the seller again. He either knew and sold it or didn’t know because he doesn’t take care of his own guns. Either way that seller would be off my list. I wouldn’t call him out on here. It never ends well.

I have bought several guns off Texas bow hunter and Texas Hunting Forum. I have never had a bad dealing with anyone. I think maybe the seller should man up and return the buyers money. If I sold a rifle and the buyer sent those pictures to me I would fell horrible and do what ever the buyer wanted to make it right. It will be a damn shame not to able to trust people off the hunting forum.

There nothing to resolve. You didn't inspect. We all have bought something and have buyers remorse.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

That sucks but it sounds like the seller did not know and is being generous with the offer.
As obvious as it is, I bet he would would have tried to clean it up before selling.

On the other hand.... Being that obvious, you should have seen it when looking to see if it was even loaded when he handed it to you.

All that said, there is no store in the US that I know of that will take back a firearm after the sale. They will just point you to the manufacturer.

Take the $100 and see what a gunsmith has to say.

How do you sell a rifle and not know it’s in pizz-poor shape like that though? I agree that the buyer should have looked but the seller DARN sure shoulda known.

If it were me, I'd make a note to self and then clean the heck out of it and go shoot it. If he offered $100 back, then consider yourself lucky. If it looked like those 2 pictures at time of sell, easy to see, then who's to blame?

It’s not how it works here. I sold a gun last week, I know what the gun looked like on the cover but if he said it’s boo boo on the inside I would refund it. Simple

One of the only straight places to sell stuff.

I buy and fix up vintage firearms, most pre WW2. That gun got real wet at some point, like underwater wet. I've fixed up way worse though with just a brush lightly wrapped in fine steel wool and the proper solvent. I wouldn't be so worried about it. I'd put in a little work and I bet it will shoot just fine. As for the seller, he'd go on my list of folks to not buy anything from again.

Maybe it’s me but I don’t look in the gun barrel when I buy a rifle of the hunting forum. I guess a mans word doesn’t mean anything now days.

How do you know it's not loaded?

LOL y’all are killing me that you think that spotty surface rust means it’s ruined or it won’t be accurate. I have WW1 battle rifles that I had to chemically remove the chamber rust that shoot MOA. rofl

I traded a rifle for a rifle on here last Nov. It shot ok, but the bolt was very hard to cycle. I figured it needed a good cleaning. It was a BAR, so i wanted to have a gunsmith do the cleaning. Once he had it apart, come to find out the bolt carrier was cracked. Gunsmith said it probably had been shot with some super hot handloads. All said, it took me $550 to make it right. It is what it is. Buyer beware when buying used. I learned my lesson. Inspect better.
