Set are archery elk camp last week up in the Snowies. Luckily we are only about 1 1/2 hrs from home.
Elk were bugling last weekend buy no rut activity yet.
The Snowies are a general area and lots of elk, turns out many black bear too judging by the sign we found.
Camp will stay up til Sept 22 or so.
Spouse found this nice creek crossing for a sit this weekend.
I know lots of folks like to talk down the new camo patterns but this one from a few years back literally helps me disappear in the blow down and spruce trees.

Some other pics from the area. The game day flag goes up when we're close to home.
We found the draw full of bulls last weekend but they only wanted to talk and nor come in to calls.

Closest thing to snow for me was some hold out from last year. Sent that to my daughters. Both have m names . One of which cried every day I was gone. The younger of the two said "nope I don't miss dad" every time she was asked.

No matter how high a duck flies a hammer still breaks a window.

Elk have been bugling but we got some company from a group of Indiana guys down the road. They seem to have pushed the elk over a couple of draws. Hoping the cows start coming in so the satellite bulls are easier to call in.
Ran across these 2 bull moose the spouse saw an earlier evening.
Black bear sign is all over, they are really hitting the old logs and ant mounds right now. Scat is all over as well.
The drive over the top of the Snowy Range is always pretty.

Pulled our elk camp on Sunday. No bulls down but had some close encounters. Lots of moose and black bear, I called in this bull raking a tree then grunted him in for a closer look.
Some pics if the blowdown terrain and some aspen groves we hunted. I'm next to the aspen tree, camo is great for our region.
Came across the freshly shed velvet on the way back to camp.
Now we concentrate on my sheep tag then pronghorn , deer and elk cows and maybe a bull on private.

Some Texas guys are heading up from the Hunt Talk forum, hoping a little advice on spots pays off for them. Elk should be talking again very soon.
Thanks for following along.

Do you have your same screen name on HT? Mine is the same. I’ll be chasing some elk soon as well!

Yes, I do have the same name on HT.
Going to warm up a bit into 50-60's this week and stay nice at night, 30's. Got a little frosty last 2 mornings, single digit temps.
Good luck on your hunt.
