Thinking of hunting it this year. I’ve never even been there but have heard quite a bit about it. I certainly plan to scout as much as I can but feel a little overwhelmed by it right now. I’m looking at my OnX map and it basically dry land. Other maps show the lake full. Do most people hunt goat island? I’m not asking for hotspots or anything like that, but would love any advice on the area and at least a point in the direction to get started. Thank you!!

I know the Texas side pretty well from when I worked out there, but it was before I was interested in ducks, so I never scouted. Have you scouted yet, I dont have a boat, so I can't scout myself.

I do have a boat and plan to go down there and scout in the next week or two.

Are you talking about the Type II area or the refuge at the old ammo plant? I think they are have rifle hunts at the refuge again after being off a couple years. Some big deer roaming there and beautiful place to be sitting.

I plan to hunt the Caddo Lake WMA. Might consider Bowhunting the refuge. I’m just going to have to go up there and spend the weekend getting some bearings there. A little overwhelming looking at the map :-)
