I like mine. Pro grille and retrofit Profile LEDs. Pulls the carp out of my 22' Bay Champ plus the whole rear window goes down, Not just a little part of it. Pulled the Champ back from LaFayette. The Tacoma never missed a beat 70-75 on IH the whole way but the gas stops with a 21 gallon tank were killing me so the Tacoma had to go. [Linked Image]

The gas mileage is the primary reason I will not buy one (Tundra that is). I work in the upstream O&G industry where a great deal of attention is paid to operating cost/efficiency from every single company. FORD dominates (plenty of Chevy's too but not even close to FORD) and we have technicians that flat out beat them up every single day and have them running idle on locations for days. Everything from our corporate fleet of Ford cars/SUV's to the service vehicles rarely ever have issues. I am talking a fleet of 1000's of vehicles all over NAM. Seeing a Toyota 99% chance it is a personal vehicle.

I live overseas and the Diesel Toyota Hilux's and Forturners are flat out amazing. Wish i could bring one back...... or a few.

The 2021 Tundra if rumors are true will be a game changer. Like the new 2020’s especially the new green color.

Jumps in HP and gas mileage.

I'll keep my 6.2 GMC and it's extra 40 hp and 60 ft-lbs of torque.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Ive not driven it it the 6.2’s are supposed to be beasts.

I like the tundras a lot. Toyota makes and has always made excellent vehicles. My Tacoma I had on high school was probably the best truck I ever owned.

For a 1/2 Ton truck, hard to go wrong with one, but Ford makes a great ride too

Something besides a 4.30 rear end would be a good start.

4.30 + Ford V10 = 10mpg. that's what I get.

If they want to do away with the 4:30 rear end they are going to have to redo their transmission ratios. The tundra doesn't turn crazy high rpm's compared to the others, they make up the difference in rear gear rations in the trans to arrive at a similar drive ratio.

Then they better get busy! My '18 Silverado and '19 Sierra, both 4x4 crew cabs, run 1700 rpm at 75mph, getting 20mpg easy. The '14 Tundra Crew 4x4, in comparison, was 2200rpm, 75mph, 14-15mpg. The new GM's run circles around that Tundra I had.

Not exactly apple to apple comparison… GM Silverado\Sierra are vehicles that look like a truck… Toyota Tundra is a Truck… so just for that reason along GM Silverado\Sierra should have higher mpg… but you also need to know at what cost you get better mpg… by design, GM engines are lighter and have higher combustion temperature (more efficient)- both are shortcuts GM choose to make when they are trying to make “old” engine design compete in the modern world… but obvious negative result of both is longevity… and I am not talking about quality here (and we all know you do not want compare GM to Toyota in that regards) I am talking about "built in" design… same “design” philosophy applies to other components of GM product…

For “Then they better get busy!” comment… were are talking about Toyota here and I believe they know what they are doing… after all you cannot be stupid if you have built biggest automotive company in the world (killing well established competitors in the process, including GM) and still have highest quality vehicles at the same time…
Tundra sales numbers are very firm at least for the past 6-7 years… so Toyota is not hurting…

If history can prove anything: Toyota will not do anything “in a hurry”, they are not influence by latest “gadget” or “hype”… They will build what they think is the “right” product… "take or leave" it approach and since they do sell more vehicles in the world then any other companies looks like they know how to build the "right" product.

And if you look at rumors for the new Tundra (possibly 2021 model) then that thing may blow away many other trucks with truck-specific twin-turbo V-6 making 450 hp \ 500 pound-feet with mpg near 30… I know those are rumors so I will believe it when I see it… but again this is Toyota… so again they know what they are doing…

There's a reason Tundra's finish deadass last in every 1/2 ton truck review and challenge. I've owned them all, several copies of each, and they last no longer than any Chevy or Ford we've owned over a 20 yr period, being they're properly maintained. A total of 50+ pickups.

Tundra tows less, hauls less, has less power and MPG than Chevy and Ford. With all that said I think they are a good meat and potatoes truck.

Well, I've got a 2008 TRD with 200K that has been the most reliable truck I've ever owned. Just maintenance and a couple u-joints. It does everything asked of it. All kinds of towing power, but thirsty while doing it.

That said, just bought a 2019 F250 to replace it. Needed a larger cab for the family, a 6.5 ft bed, and more payload. No such configuration in the Tundra. If it holds up as well as the 12 year old Toyota did I'll be very happy.

It took you 12 years to get to 200k?

It’s time you start hunting more

My dad, who is 84 and still tough as nails, has 336k on his 2010 F150 4x4 crew. My last Tundra had major electronic problems and cold starts sensor issues repeatedly before it turned 75k, They're not near as bulletproof as the older ones, the so called mid sized variety they introduced first.

Yeah… but to reach that point it only took me couple decades of experience with Toyota and other brands… LOL

My wife drives a Tundra that has the smaller V8, it has plenty of power and gets 17 mpg in TOWN. That’s with 4x4 and slightly larger tires. I know the squatty little Chevy’s can’t get much better than that. My 19 F150 company truck looks like it’s 6” lower than her truck and she only has a level kit. The big 3 half tons sit way too low to the ground.

Write this down, I agree with Jgraider. The first gen 2000-2006 were really good LIGHT duty trucks. I wish the could have continued with that.....

Ford made up for it with the super duty’s though.

I’m about to put 37’s on my truck and it only has a level kit

My last chevy half ton had a 4” lift and it almost brought it to the stock height of my Ford F-150
