With 4 points, I got lucky and drew the archery mule deer tag for Matador WMA! Dates are Oct. 21-25. Has anybody hunted here, and has anybody had any success?
This will be my first mule deer hunt anywhere. Plan on treating it like a "western" style hunt. Hoping to hear some cool feedback and stories. Excited to spend a week out there.

Plan to do lots of walking.
Don't talk the talk if you didn't walk the walk.

It's gonna be a tough hunt. The past few years, the success rate was 0%.
Treating it like a "western" style hunt is the best approach IMO. From a good vantage point, glass one up. Put the sneak on him when he beds down.

Had the gun WT hunt last year. Super fun. We were on East compartments and you want West by the river. Get up on bluffs and glass. We saw hundreds of MD off WMA in cotton in November

Yeah that’s kinda what I was thinking the success rate had been. Does anybody know he deer will be doing around that time period? Pre-rut? Had the gun WT hunt last year. Super fun. We were on East compartments and you want West by the river. Get up on bluffs and glass. We saw hundreds of MD off WMA in cotton in November I’ve heard the western units were better for mule deer too. Do you get to pick your compartment? I don’t plan on walking that much. Hopefully my glass will be doing all the walking for me. But hopefully I’ll see a lot of deer.
