Mentioned here before my daughter was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 just a month before her 6th birthday. I sadly know first hand what this family is dealing with, hardest battle you will ever face. Now she is cancer free, but we deal with the side effects of chemo, radiation and the damage the tumor did to her body everyday. I will never understand why pediatric cancer only gets 4% of cancer research funding when they have the most to live for. Also childhood cancer is not rate anymore. There is a summer camp for kids being treated at Childrens Hospital in Dallas and when my daughter went back in July there were 5 tour busses worth of kids going. Would have been more if you count the ones too sick to go or the ones who lost their battle.

I have no words.

If the 2nd amendment was written just to include guns for hunting, why is there not an amendment to protect fishing poles?

This was our family's life for 5 years starting almost 15 years ago with my son, Gavin whom was 2 at the time. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (Pre-Cell B high risk) with my wife 8.5 months pregnant with Gavin's soon to be little sister, Amanda. To say it was a complete and horrible shock to the system would be a major understatement. The shock was only worsened by the fact that Gavin was in/out of Children's Medical Center of Dallas for a total of 350+ hospitalization nights plus 200 or so outpatient chemotherapy days. Our longest consecutive single stay in those 5 years was 60 nights; otherwise it was a week here and a couple of weeks there, a few nights here. When I profess that I helped build that new wing at Children's a few years back, it is not too far of an exaggeration. Through superior healthcare and the Lord's grace, I can report that Gavin is a relatively healthy 16 yo high schooler today with a 14 yo sister that hates to love him. Childhood cancers are some of the worst things I have ever experienced and endured with my son. I have cried many a nights over his predicament and with others that ultimately had children overcome and perish from their cancers.

The Camp for children from toddler age to 16yo is called Camp Esperanza and is in Meridian, TX, from age 16-18yo the camp is also in Meridian, TX and is known as "Teen Retreat". My son attended Camp Esperanza for about 10 years straight and will be attending Teen Retreat for the second time this weekend in fact.

Saw this over the weekend. Kid is in isolation due to immune system so his mom can only watch him. It's gutwrenching just to see a picture or video. God bless all the families in these situations and most of all the kids

One other little tidbit and repercussion that you do not hear about unless going through it is that approximately 7.5/10 marriages fail to divorce while going through pediatric cancers and approximately 5/10 families have to file bankruptcy due to staggering medical debt. Thankfully, our marriage endured and actually strengthened and we were fortunate to have had excellent health care insurance coverage too.

Prayers for this little fellow and all who have or have had cancer. I lost a second cousin when I was a teenager to brain cancer and it was tough watching him go thru it. I have a friend that lost her father, mother and her son to cancer. She and her sister have beaten it for the present time.

One other thing that I completely did not know until my son was diagnosed is that nearly 100% of all pediatric cancers are non-hereditary, non-habit related, derived cancers, very much unlike many adult cancers.
Instead most pediatric cancers are related to "genetic mutations" or genetic anomalies that somehow manifest. Most pediatric cancer research though very underfunded and under performed is left to try and figure out the cause of these genetic mutations and to determine if there are any underlying "genetic markers" which can be identified that "predispose" a child to be susceptible to possible cancer genetic mutations. To say a child is an innocent victim in this viscous cancer world, is very much an understatement.
It is fascinating how in a short time, how educated a parent becomes in the world of medicine and oncology when going through cancer hell with their child.
