Get the lowest gears they offer, anything in the 4's. For instance, Ford's are 4.30 at the low end. The mileage difference in negligible from the 3.73s, but the performance difference more than makes up for it.

I've had a 3.73 GM 2500 and hated it with a fury normally reserved for first wives. Now I've got 4.10s, and it's much, much more pleasurable to drive. I had sworn off GM's 6 liter prior to driving this one.

The GM 6.2 is a rocketship that still gets better than average mileage.

Have a 2017 6.2 Ford Supercrew FX4 3/4 ton gasser and at 51,000 miles runs good so far. Have had several diesels and since I don't pull heavy trailers anymore, I will stick with the gas models. It pulls my gooseneck trailers just fine when I need to.

another fan of the ford f150/5.0, avg around 16 hiway. so far the only problem has been a bad head temp sensor, replaced under extended warranty so no big deal.

it is a 5.0/3.55 gear 4x4/6 speed/34.5 a/ts/k&n cold air intake, throttle body spacer, borla muffler and superchips tuner (this a primarily a tow tuner), currently has 92575 miles.

was looking at dodge and ford when I bought this one, either in the Tx. edition were my choice. mine is the xlt with leather and most of the other goodies and I love the seats. as for room, don't think you can do better than the ford crew, huge back seat and the front has plenty of room for me at 6'2"/215#.

wouldn't even look at a cheby.

footnote: the 5.0 (302) has been out for decades and is proven to be a great power plant, the coyote specs,

Engine Specs:

5.0L Coyote V8
4V DOHC Ti-VCT Design
360 horsepower @ 5500rpm
380lb-ft of torque @ 4250rpm
17 mpg city / 21 mpg highway (2WD)

with my upgrades I am probably around 425 hp at crankshaft.

BIL, how will you be using the truck, what do you need it to do?

Comment on the Hemi needling plugs every 30k pure bs

My 2010 is about to turn 240k. Engine runs like a top and I have only changed the plugs twice.

Coyote V8 was a fresh-sheet design and debuted in 2011. This isn't your grandpappy's 302, even though it is a great motor and would likely be the one I would buy.

As is the ecoboost needing turbos at 100k.

The ecoboost will out tow and out run the 5.0 as well as get better fuel mileage. What it will not do is ever sound like a V8. Plus it comes at a premium price new. I don’t know about price on resale.

Maintenance is probably the biggest part of the equation.

Im sure the 5.3 might have a higher rate of issues with the AFM, but I have been told the problem is made much worse by people not keeping up with oil changes and not using an oil that meets the correct specifications. That said I wouldn't buy one.

If I was looking and reliability was my biggest concern id probably get a 5.0 ford, 5.7 tundra, or 5.7 ram. All of these trucks are knocking on 400 hp and enough torque, if a SxS is all you tow, I wouldn't want a 3/4.

I've bought Fords, Chevys and Tundras. Never have driven anything except trucks. My last two have been Tundras. Current model is TSS SR5 4x4. It does everything I need a truck to do. I spend quite a bit of time on ranches, off road. And it's been a great tow vehicle for my Mule and fishing boat. Has a giant back seat to accommodate gear and guns, seats flip up back there.
Comfortable to drive, quiet and very dependable.

People gripe about gas mileage but if MPG is what you want get something else.

Not saying I wouldn't buy another brand but why should I?

Just a for instance. I have a 2015 RAM 1500. I have not had 1 single issue with it, not even a burned out tail light or fuse. I have done nothing but change the oil, fuel filter, and air filter and put a set of tires on it. It tows 1/2 ton appropriate loads perfectly fine. I average 28-30 mpg commuting and 14-17 mpg towing. I don't go rock climbing or mudding but it does ranch trips just fine. For me I said why buy a truck that gets 15 on a good day empty when I can have one that does 2x that and still does everything else I need.
