I don't have a lot of rifles, 10 to be exact. I have optics on 8. Leupold on 3, Burris on 2, Vortex on 3. My decision on what to buy always starts with how much $ I plan to spend. It seems that when my budget is higher, I've always landed on Leupold. When I'm wanting to stay around the $200.00 mark, it's been Vortex. (These are on rimfires and a .243 that I use as a loaner or for a guest I may take hunting)

I'm not loyal to a brand, but have made my purchase decisions based on budget and application. All things relative, I gotta give the nod to Burris. I bought the MTAC this year, a few years after production on clearance from Natchez (thanks Pitchfork) at a great price. No doubt about it, the VX6 is better, but not 4x better. THe VX 6 is prolly the best scope I'll ever own. I'm hard on it, it's been through a lot, I've dialed it on three different shots one morning and could have made a TV commercial for Leupold with the results. But, I'm not always going to drop $1600.00 on a scope. This MTAC purchase has got me to where I'll be looking at Burris a lot harder next time I'm in the market.

How does the VX-5HD compare to the VX-6?

Honestly, there's not a lot of difference in image quality. Both are great at pulling out detail in very low light. At 100 yards, with light so low you can't see a deer at your feeder, both will give you enough detail to count points on the rack of a buck you can't even see unaided. Sharpness, I'd give the edge to the VX5-HD. More magnification and larger objective Ø on the VX6 has been handy a few times. I have CDS dials on both and field tests have proven them to be dead nuts.

I’m the same way.
