I was going to Oklahoma tomorrow for some combo Teal/Dove/Rail/Goose hunting or whatever of those I could stir up, but I just looked and it's going to be 101 degrees, sunny, and almost no wind. There was a time it did not matter, but I have about had enough of this heat. I know my dog has. Cooler weather can't get here soon enough.

That's a great picture, and just about sums it up. I'm really itchy to go tho - I might just brave it.

I bought a shirt at academy, camo long sleeve, and it's the material with all the tiny holes in it, like basketball shorts, it was 98° and HUMID, I stayed as cool as a cucumber in it. It was about $12.

I braved it. It was miserable hot. I'll always remember yesterday - I had my shot of a lifetime. I'm not a good shotgunner. At all, period. I used to shoot midrange and long range iron site competition, so Ive been trained all my life to use my front site. And so I always focused on the bead. Ya-all can probably guess my average hit rate. After watching Utube videos, I found this one that made all the difference. ShotKam - Dove Hunting with Gil AshSo I followed Gil Ash's directions. I saw a bird a couple hundred yards to my left flying a line that would put it in range. I lifted my Remington and it saw me, and flew to its left a bit making it a long shot. I "stopped" the bird with a good lead and just as it crossed in front of the sun I took the shot - nothing... Then it fell! One shot, and it fell in hip high grass and i never found it. I wanted to find that dove, I can honestly say that that was my first one taken with the feeling that it wasnt just dumb luck that i hit it. Picture perfect shot. And i also learned that the blue Rio shotshells won't function well my 1100. That darned thing jammed and didn't eject. Good thing i didn't need a follow-up shot.

Sometimes there's a "teaser" cold front before my birthday, just to remind us that Fall is coming. My birthday's next Wednesday. I don't think it's happening.

Looks like it’ll be a couple degrees cooler leading into your birthday here in the SE.
