Does anyone know if the numbers are worth trying to hunt Axis on Camp Bullis? I've never hunted Axis and haven't had time to get out and scout since I just moved not long ago, nor would I know which compartment to start looking. They have banned bait this year and have put a hold on the whitetail drawing.

Second, are there any differences between whitetail and axis hunting-wise? I've heard they have tougher and don't always drop first time, but beyond that I don't know anything else. Is the sign the same, and do they travel the same? Any tips for a newbie would be greatly appreciated!

Axis have no set patterns from what I have seen. Find a place in a bottom that may still have some green grass and if you are lucky water. And be prepared to do a lot of sitting.

Get a Hoochie Mama cow elk call at Academy. Hit that thing about every 5 minutes, a little after dawn. Good luck! 'Very hard to predict when the bucks will "roar", but you can bring 'em in on a string with that thing, if you play your cards right.

I hunted Camp Bullis for years from about 1987-2000. The whole program went into the garbage can when the Air Force took over. Best of luck.

Although kinda kidding, but not really. It all depends on who is running the show at the top. I've seen good stretches of "joint basing" and bad when AF has lead. Same with Army.
