On the way home from dinner last night, accelerating from a stop light there was a loud thud/clunk/pop sort of a sound and a sudden loss of power. The boost gauge does not register. I don't hear the normal sounds - turbo whistle and whoosh from wastegate but the truck sounds different, maybe even louder. This was maybe a mile from home so I continued driving. Turbo failed? Wastegate? If it's either of those is it safe to drive to the shop or should it be towed? Maybe it's something else??

2011 Ford F250 6.7. Just turned 90k, mostly easy, miles. Full delete at 60k (?) when an emissions sensor failed.

Thanks.

Look for one of the rubber boots on the discharge lines from the turbo to be blown off or possibly have a hole.

Would be my frist thought as well.

There is a post about it on the TFF in the auto section, I believe it was a common problem on those year models and may have even been a recall for it.

Could be as simple as a boot blown off or might be the plastic cold side pipe broke.

You can just replace the cold side pieces that either blew off or broke with OE or use an upgrade 'kit', any worth having will come with constant tension spring clamps.

Cheap, cold side only ---> Amazon through Rudy's.

The very best, both sides ---> Mishimoto

There are tons of places that sell various brand, pipes, boots, clamps and or kits.

I had to replace a power steering line a couple of weeks ago. Finished and while pulling a trailer getting on the highway later that night I blew the intercooler line boot off. Sounded just like that. Fortunately I knew what it was immediately because I had to remove that line to get to the power steering hose. Pulled off at the next exit, replaced rubber boot, and tightened properly that time. Ran about 28 lbs to boost in the old 7.3 getting back on the highway just to confirm I got it right. No big deal, get the parts and fix it yourself, if you can change a radiator hose you can do this.

Sure sounds like a blown boot. Happened to my 2012 one morning- same outcome as OP described. Drove it to the dealer no problem.

Seems like they all are, but those V-8 diesels sure seem to fill one up even more with the turbo and all the plumbing.

I've replaced that cold side tube on a couple different fords now, pretty common deal especially when you delete and start pushing more air. The local diesel shop had a dozen of them in stock, it was about a 45 min job with my fat hands
