I read somewhere that if you have a ccl you can have your hand gun in your vehicle on school property. Am I wrong?

You are pretty much correct. If you have an LTC you can have them in the parking lot, drive thru pick up line, and even on you as you walk up to the front door to pick your kid up. You can not cross the threshold into the building though.
***BUT...the law also states you can’t have them anywhere a school activity is being conducted. So... if the band or drill team is practicing in the school parking lot you are NOT allowed to have it there. This was as of 2017. I’m not aware of any recent changes to this law, but I don’t follow it as closely now.
You didn’t ask, but you can’t have them on ANY part of federal property. So if you have an LTC and need to drop stamped mail off in the drive through parking lot at the post office, you would be breaking the law as soon as you pulled into the drive through.

Sure thing! Schools used to be able to put pressure on school employees with an LTC and say they couldn’t keep them concealed in their cars in the parking lots while they taught inside, that was also changed.
