Well, I got an email the first thing this morning, saying we were successful for the second draw for Matador Archery Deer. Unfortunately, when we didn't draw originally, we made alternate plans for that period in October. Mule deer, elk, and now have muzzleloader antelope tags for Idaho all for that same period. Crap!!

Never fails, unlucky in the first and then somehow the odds double and you draw for the second. I will call the WMA so that they can plan on at least one standby position open. Good luck to someone.

Sounds to me like you're gonna have a dang good season anyway! I guess that means some standby spots will be open.

Congrats, OP...I was notified this morning I received a spot hunting javelina at Big Bend Ranch SP in October! Here's the funny thing: I've only entered draw hunts three times and with today's news, won twice! Oddly enough, the first time around was for javelina at Elephant Mountain WMA (and I got one at the end of the first day)! I guess me, West Texas and javelina are just meant to be.

Did you get an email stating you drew a tag?

Talked to Caroline this morning at Matador WMA, and let her know that 3 of us would not be coming for the Archery Deer hunt. They appreciated the notice, and said they would plan for some standby hunters.

I may be in the same boat for the Laguna Atascosa archery deer draw on the first weekend of November. The worst part is that it's the first and only time I've ever been drawn! smile

I've drawn there twice. Last year I couldn't go due to a death in the family. I was excited when I got it again this year. Then 30 minutes later I got an email that my son won a youth hunt on the same dates. So there it goes again.
