I was out at the lease (West TX between Big Spring and Post) this past weekend and found another dummy or practice bomb. I know the area was used before or during WWII as a practice range for training bombers. There's an old octagonal concrete target that was their mark. The two I've found both were about 3/4 mile from their intended target.

Wanted to see if any of y'all had any insight into what planes would have dropped these or could find a picture of one that didn't have it's nose smashed in.

They are both completely hollow and don't have any unexploded ordinance.

My Dad said he watched B-26s & AT-11 practice out of Childress air field. Texas was big on bomber training during WW2 1942 -1946. There is a Norden bomb site in the Childress city Museum. Also Wasp training in these same fields.

I was on a ranch NW of Merzton that was a training site also. It was a caliche pad site with a bullseye. LO told me they dropped concrete practice bombs on that site. You could still see the terraced caliche rings of the target on the aerial photos of the ranch. We drove to the site and could see most of it, but it was growing back up in cedar and mesquites.

There were about 50 Army training air bases in Texas during WWII. A abundance of flat wide open spaces, and low population areas made West Texas a mecca for them. A lot of them have been converted to local municipal airports.

I hunted on a place west of Andrews that had a practice range from WW2 on it. There are thousands of those in the one pasture they had a target.
They were filled with concrete or sand.
