I'll paraphrase something I just read. Some Texas school districts still suspending young students despite the ban. The report goes on to say that schools have largely stopped taking young kids out of school as punishment. Thoughts?

Schools are just daycare's and they ain't good at that ether.

2 sides to this, if a student hauls off and nails a bully, why should he be suspended? On the other hand the little punk that hauls off and nails a kid just because he wanted to, should be suspended. I think this is not getting rid of zero tolerance, but administering it in a more fair method.

Let's hire a chit load (more) Administrators and police that.

Called it sac when I was in school. Special attention center. I broke a record of 100 days but I was still counted as being in school

It’s all about the Benjamin’s! District lose money if junior isn’t there, so most schools I’m familiar with do in school suspensions.

Need to bring back corporal punishment.

Pretty sure they still have it but just not used ......although I was in the 100 lick club my freshman year and it didn't do much good.

Yes sir around here kids usually don’t get suspended they get sent to an alternative school.

Our local district uses OCS, On Campus Suspension. That way they still get the daily money but get the problem child out of the class room.

They still have it. Buddy (and member here and TFF) is a vice principle and paddles kids at school for disciplinary reasons.

We called it A-school. Alternative school and you sat in cubicals, once I learned to not try to break out of there, I actually did better in there.

Btw, schools have always been day care for bad parents... Good ole day syndrome has always been around. Most want to forget. Thank God cameras didn't exist in school during the 80/90s... With good parents, informing and ISS is enough... Otherwise, those kids will always screw up no matter what. Might as well get paid for them being in your building I guess now though.

Back in the day, we could skip school and figure a way out of it. Now my kid has to pay $100 if he skips.

Those are the hardcore deliquiates, todays rowdy kindergartener and tomorrows mass murders.

To me anything zero tolerance is just a cop out by the school board and principal from taking responsibility to judge each incident by the circumstance and evidence.

Schools are big business
