I have a well about 35yds. behind my cabin and is about 50' deep on a slight downhill slope. I'd like to put in a septic tank at my cabin. It will only be used by two people about 80days a year. How close can it be to the well without affecting the safety of the water. The soil is sandy loam. Thanks

50' from septic tank & 100' from leach field minimum.
In sandy soil I'd want triple.

At ranch HQ water well & septic is separated - tank 300' & leach field 400'.

I'd get professional opinion experienced with your specific area, tainting a water well with human waste is a bad situation.

TCEQ website has that information.

There's only 2 seasons in a year. Deer season and getting ready for deer season.

A anaerobic septic system might be another option.

coffee spelled backwards is eeffoc. I don't give eeffoc until I have my morning coffee.

Whatever the distance turns out to be, I would NEVER build the tank above the well, especially in sandy soil. Run lines downhill from well.
