Wonder how many high school shooters have been on acne meds or other meds that might have a similar side effect?

It made sensational headlines today but it will be in appeals for years.

I'm also a fan of personal accountability, but it does look like big pharma was guilty of hiding the addictiveness and they also issued prescribing guidelines that were almost guaranteed to result in addiction. FDA was also asleep at the switch when they failed to take notice of how many former FDA inspectors were leaving to take high paying jobs with the pharma companies.

They have lots of $$$$ on the line with it. When lots of $$$$$ is on the line I don't trust much of what anyone has to say. They are always going to line their own pockets.

I should add, I in no way think the state will do the right thing with the money.

Several cops on here have no doubt put dope dealers in jail. It's law enforcement and it must be done. Problem is those dealers are replaced quickly and the cycle never ends. Supply and demand is really only affected when the head of the snake is severed. The head of the snake was severed in this case. The market will be affected until the new snake moves in. There's just too much money in it for it to go away. Why aren't the pill dealers ever locked up like the street dealers? By that I mean doctors that prescribe thousands of pills and know full well what they are doing. They push the pills because they get incentives from Pharma. I know this for a fact. I know a woman who is a rep for a pharma. company. She has shown me how they get incentives to doctors. The more pills the doc pushes, the better and more frequent the incentives. Those guys always walk away clean while the poor street dealer does real time. It all makes me sick.

A friend from Mexico told me once, "Americans take too many pills." He said down there, you get sick and go to the doc. He/she diagnosis you and gives you a shot on site, not a script for someone else to have their chance at your wallet. It seems to me a good portion of our health system is a drug ring with the stamp of govt. approval.

We are 1 of only 2 countries in the world that allow drug companies to advertise their prescription drugs to the public.

Time to break big pharma..

Purdue Pharma, Sackler family offer $10B-$12B to settle opioid lawsuits: Report

“While Purdue Pharma is prepared to defend itself vigorously in the opioid litigation, the company has made clear that it sees little good coming from years of wasteful litigation and appeals,” Purdue Pharma said in a statement addressing the report. “The people and communities affected by the opioid crisis need help now. Purdue believes a constructive global resolution is the best path forward, and the company is actively working with the state attorneys general and other plaintiffs to achieve this outcome.”

The drugmaker did not confirm or comment on the proposed settlement terms.

Purdue Pharma faces more than 2,000 lawsuits alleging the firm used deceptive sales practices to push the potent painkiller to the public. Plaintiffs argue the tactics contributed to the ongoing U.S. opioid crisis and factored into hundreds of thousands of deaths over the last decades.

Talk to Washington, it is run by the Pharmaceutical companies to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, that is why they want gov't control of your health care. The worlds biggest cash cow. This lawsuit was too small to affect anyone, it seems like all show to me.

Yes, plenty of blame to go around on this one.

Well, I separated all my ribs from my sternum from being run over by a 1500 when I was 20. Worst constant sharp pain I’ve ever dealt with, ever. I cringed at the thought of a sneeze, cough etc. that lasted an EASY 4 months. You guessed it, by then I was hooked. They don’t make a cast for that. Those situations do happen.

I seriously hope I never get that injured ever again because I won’t take pain meds ever again.

Go to the doc with a cold and leave with 5 NEW meds that pay everyone in line, not proven and affordable ones.

We need tort reform, for starters.

Why are we surprised? For decades we have given up control to our elected officials. We literally put the fox in control of the hen house and then act shocked that the fox did what a fox does. What do you expect a person who has the ability to set his own salary to do? What do you expect a person who can make millions by doing what drug companies want to do? Seriously? Yet, we re-elect them year after year. We allow them to lie to us every few years and say what we want to hear. Back we send them and then are shocked again when they sell us out.

This is a shame on us! Shame on us for not demanding and involving ourselves more diligently.
