We got drawn for archery at Kickapoo Caverns. Never been there but I am excited to draw with my 10 points!

Would love to hear of anyone's experiences.

The hunt is by compartment. Some of the areas are really thick, like you can't hardly even walk through it. When I hunted there a few years ago, I got a compartment with some elevation and used that to my advantage, setting up a pop up blind on a ridge so I could see across the draw. Ended up shooting two nice does. There are a good number of deer. The exotics mainly consist of Barbado Sheep. They make an interesting mount, but are not good table fare from what i heard. Good luck.

The barbado I shot and ate wasn't very good to me at all. I am sure someone will tell me I just didn't get it made into the right thing, cooked it wrong, seasoned it wrong, etc. The meat just didn't smell right I can tell you that.

I've never eaten one. But, with something like that I tend to cook heavily seasoned meals. Carnitas, sausage, etc. all can help make anything at least decent. I'm not trying to be that guy. Just my thought.

Thanks guys. If I can get the opportunity to get away and the chance at drawing my bow on anything......I'm happy!

Any info on this place would be much appreciated.

I hunted there years ago. It was by compartment and got our does easily. I have applied there many times since but have never been lucky enough to draw it again. They had a primitive campground set up that was nice. That’s about all I remember.

I hunted the archery hunt last year. Had a blast! Had a chance for a shot at a small buck at 40 yards (crossbow), but didn't take it. He was very young and I didn't need the meat.
We had a flood while we were there. I camped at the park, but the night of the flood, the roads in either direction from camp were 6' under water. The guys that were staying in town couldn't get to the property until the next afternoon. Fortunately, I took lots of food and a large pile of mesquite firewood (kept dry in my utility trailer). I was very popular that day smile. Everybody that wanted to was welcomed to the fire and food. We had fun.
After the rain the mosquitoes were real bad.
Someone in the unit next to me took a Nilgai. I've heard they are very tasty.
I saw a lot of small exotic sheep/goats (maybe they were Corsicans or Barbados or something). Not my thing, I left them alone.
I would do it again, for sure!

Hunted out there last year on rifle hunt. Shot a weird spike last evening of hunt. Great place to camp. Try to get compartment to the west near the high fence ranch. One guy shot one of the two nilgai on the park in compartment we were in. Little secret to ask the biologist out there, he doesn't allow corn but may allow protein if you ask nice and keep it on the down low. Good luck.
