I am working on building a blind for my boat.
What works best for covering the outside?
Burlap or net and Rafia? or grass mats? If grass mats do I still need backing?
First time to build a boat blind so just looking for everyone's input.

I'm sure you prolly heard this already, but only hunt from the boat if ya gotta. Your hide is always better in a make shift blind than trying to disguise the outline of a boat. I understand tho that sometimes you have to... mud too deep, no other cover, fidgety kids. Been there, but I haven't had mine on in a couple of years.

IMO grass mats don't hold up well on their own. If they get wet or its windy they are a pain. I've used them with chicken wire backing, but they still fall apart pretty quick. Burlap works well, but it gets heavy when wet and will rot and stank like crazy. Netting with rafia is the best route for me. You can't beat the realism of it, light weight, and the netting won't rot.

My 2cents

I prefer barn tin covered with palm leaves.
