Who's got one? I picked one up used at a great price from some folks that were moving and had to dump it. $50.00.

It's fantastic, but could use a pointer or two. This thing is a huge heat sink, It was a few hours before I could drain the oil back into the bug jug it came in. I let it hit 350° and dropped the potatoes in. It stalled there and a minute or two later kept rising, and that was after I backed it back a bit.

Would it work better to dial back on the heat once it hits 325° and let it do it's own thing, a slow climb to 350° and then drop the loaded baskets? Maiden Voyage.

I’ve used a 6 basket model for a large fish fry. We would let run til about 350°, then run a couple sacrificial basket of fries to soak up some heat. It would level out, then get after cooking fish. We actually used 3 6 basket units. 2 for fish and one for most of the fries. And yes, it took a few hours to cool down. We would start dumping oil back in jugs at about 200° Cudos on the find, also be careful lighting on windy days.

Don’t trust the thermometers, get an infrared heat gun.

A little side note. Your French fries will come out better if you fry them twice.

That’s a steal at $50. Just bought one. The sacrificial sack of frozen fries works for me on the 6 gallon model.

I like a double fry, but there is also a fine line of damn these are good to crap we made them too crispy.

So, when your temp hits 350° you dump potatoes, and dial back on gas supply?
