Wagging tails and cold noses just warm my heart! Well-trained dogs also are good for conservation. Many fewer birds are lost. More time shooting when Rover or Fido are retrieving. It would suck totally to lose an opportunity for a rare double because you left your cooler stool in the dove field to pick up your own birds. If water-hole shooting, a retriever can swim should your bird fall into the drink! Happy doves real soon. Better check the MOJO decoys for batteries.

That's the way we roll.
I've been taking my pointer pup out to the gun club lately. She just loves being around open spaces and shotguns.

Welcome to THF, Herb!

I've got 2 pointers, one is a trained duck, dove and quail snatching machine. The other is a mess I'm trying to straighten out. I'm taking mine swimming in a few hours. I get my dogs out and active every chance I get. My wife tells me to get the dogs out of the house, it's like having two crazy kids on top of my 3 crazy kids already. Love taking the dogs hunting

Pasha retrieved more doves in his life than i was able to shoot
That was him at age 15 1/2, still retrieving after his fluid/meds treatment

The new pasha retrieved last year at 5 months old and will be excellent.

Blaze at 11 months old Sept 1st 2005. She turns 15 late next month. No telling how many 100s of dove she retrieved during her hunting life.

Please be sure to hydrate your dogs. They don't know when to quit and aim to please. We had some ***hole many years ago bring what was obviously the family pet with him to hunt. He ended up letting the heat kill that poor dog. Needless, to say that clown almost didn't make it out of the field alive either.

There is usually a thread advising to keep dogs at home for crowded dove fields in the heat.
