I don’t remember any great shots with a shotgun. My best shot with a rifle was memorable because I had 5 witnesses that still tell the kids about it. We were riding around drinking cold beer in a suburban back in the day. We pulled up to a buddies farm house and a coyote took off across the tank bottom. I shot him in the back of the head with an open sighted 30-30 at 212 yards and rolled him. Lit up a cigarette and said I bet he doesn’t do that again. It was comical.

Big flock of whitewings was incoming, person about 40 yards to my right opened fire. The birds all swooped downward til they were at almost eye level, maybe 20 feet in front of me. Unloaded 3 shots into the ball of birds, picked up 6 birds from that flock. That made my day cuz up until then there wasn't much of anything going on.

I took a buddy of mine hunting a few times and he always tells me I dont hunt, I go killing ( i usually had good days hunting with him). I usually have my limit in 20 shots or less.
Anyway, one day we were on our way out to the field and I am carrying a dove tree I made for my decoys to sit on. I see a dove coming our way and my buddy is about 20 yards in front of me. I tell him about the bird and he takes aim..... BOOM...... BOOM.. BOOM! He misses the strait flying bird. It then makes a turn and I pull my shotgun up one handed and fire and the bird folds. I stab my dove tree in the ground and then catch the bird one handed with my now free left hand. I stick the dove in my bag, pickup my dove tree, and proceed towards him. He is still stunned with his jaw dropped open and I grin as I walk by him. I stop and look back at him ask him if he is ready to go hunt now and finally crack a smile. He just shakes his head and tells me that is not right and really not fair!

That buddy moved away a few years back and I kind of miss hunting with him!

Somewhere around 10 years old with a 410 single shot drew a bead on a dove crossing a ways out. My dad says Paul noooo! I nailed it. Over the next 49 years several doubles and triples. I hope I can do that this year!

Last year while dove hunting I shot a double with one shot pretty high in the sky. I had enough time to set my gun in my chair and was able to catch both birds before they hit the ground.
My brother last year shot his limit of ducks with one shot shooting into a 6 pack of gadwall.

Ok I have one that was a lifesaver and one that was ridiculous.
Ridiculous first. My Cousin and I were fishing way up Hubbard Creek past the county line club. I looked up and here came a dove flying down the creek. I jumped up and acted like I had a gun and went bang. The dove kinda fluttered and went down just like I had shot it. We went down where it fell in the water and it had hit a power line going over the creek. We figured I startled it and it just didn't see the line.
The life saver. My Dad, my Wife and I were frog hunting out by Throckmorton and as I walked around the tank I went to step across a little creek where water ran in. I had a Remington nylon 66 .22 When it got dirty it would go full auto and it was doing that that day. As my foot was coming down I saw I was going to step on a 4 foot rattler. I just pointed and pulled the trigger. My gun spit out about 10 shots and one got him in the head or I would have got bit.

Mine was 3 Sandhills in three shots. Best I've witnessed was my Pop, took 3 dove in 3 shots with about a 30+mph tailwind. With that said I've shot several birds out of the air with a 22 revolver. I've broke a few clays on the trap range with my old K-22 S&W.

The most amazing shot I saw was my daughter who shot a bird that was a long, long way off. I told her it was too far and she needed to wait. She took my instructions to mean “shoot now”. I can’t tell you how far the distance was, but it was an extremely long shot with a 20 gauge and she crumpled the bird. I called here by her full name out of excitement and her husband said “her maiden name has changed since marrying him”. I told him to shut up and when he made a shot better than hers I’d call her by her new last name. He has still yet to make a better shot.

Got a double on doves while the gamewarden was standing there talking to me. Seems like last season, but I think it was closer to 40 seasons ago. Got three doves with one shot on a rise when I walked over a tank dam.

First shot ever at an animal was a dove. It fell on my first shot so hell yeah. Spent a good 30 minutes it seemed chasing it around on the ground till I finally caught it. Popped the head off as I was told by my buddy and in the vest.

Many others. 3 for 3 on pond jumping ducks on a pond I had never seen ducks in a N Tex freak blizzard after sitting in deer stand freezing to death seeing nothing. Forecast was 30s and flurries. Ended up in lower 20s by 8 am with 6 inches by afternoon and insane icy drove home that took over 6 hours instead of 2. I almost got a hotel on way home.

Hunting near Spur while a fall front hit with winds blowing 40 to 60. Shooting dove coming out of a wheat field. Hit one that crumbled but was a mile away it seemed. Fell almost 100 yards away in brush. No way was I finding it. Walked right up to it!

I had just finished a Doubles Skeet League at the gun club and quail season had opened a couple of years ago.

On our first hunt, north of Abilene, we came back from lunch and as we were getting out of the truck a red tailed hawk swooped down on a nearby fence line, screeched and a big covey exploded from below.

I looked at my buddy, he looked at me and we started walking toward the fence.
Dogs went in.......I stood in one spot and shot six quail - in pairs - as the dogs moved up the fence.

It was memorable.
