I own a Remington 700 BDL 22-250 and my 11 year old step son is gong to use it this season for deer. Is there a good cartridge that I can buy that will do the job on a WT deer as long as there is good shot placement? I know that Nosler trophy has a 60 grain that has good reviews but they are 42.00/20 rounds. Just asking for advice on a load that I can buy.

my .02 depends on whether the rifle likes that load, most likely a 1-14 twist, never had one that would shoot any thing over 55gr, but, never say never

Generally speaking, you'll want something in the 55 - 64 grain weight that is NOT a varmint load. Pointed soft point or a bonded type bullet are better for deer sized critters. More specifically, I suggest trying 2 or 3 different loads and see which one shoots best in that rifle. Remington, Federal, Nosler and Winchester all make something that should work on deer.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Does federal offer a 62 grain fusion load? That would likely be the most cost effective hunting round I would try in it.

I'd look for the Federal Premium with the 60gr Nosler Partition. Online I found a lot near $1/rd. https://ammoseek.com/ammo/22-250/Federal-rifle-60grains-

If the Nosler Partition shot a decent group I would go in that direction.

Another vote for the Partition load if it will stabilize and shoot decent groups in your rifle.
If those won't shoot, go for a 55-60 grain soft point bullet.

If the Nosler Partition shot a decent group I would go in that direction. 100% agree the 60gr partition would be my go to if it will group well in that rifle

I've killed a whole bunch of deer with regular ol Remington green & yellow box 55grn psp or federal power shok 55grn sp in a 1:14 twist .22-250. Remington supposedly offers or is coming out with a 50grn TSX. Box marked HTP.
Whatever is most accurate out of your rifle, deer are not tough or hard to kill, shot placement is #1.

I wont say that any bullet from a 22-250 223 etc wont kill a deer, but I do believe there are vastly better choices than your run of the mill 50-55 grain soft point.
If your going to stay in the lighter range of bullets I would highly recommend trying the barnes vortex ammo.

I use the 55 grain federal fusion load.
Works good in the .22-250. Not accurate but fine for 100 yards
Was gonna try and use the nosler 60 grain partition. A big pricier but small potatoes if you consider improper ammo can cost you a deer in those small calibers
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

That was gonna be my recommendation. My daughter shoots 55 GK handloads out of a 223 and that little round surprises me every time she shoots something with it.

When i wasnt reloading, i had great results with the Winchester Super-X 55gr and 64gr PSP. The 64gr from Winchester would stabilize in my 22-250 bdl and i prefer it for a factory load, but its very hard to find. Their 55gr has also worked well for me and is more plentiful. Winchester PSP LINKIf you get into reloading, the Sierra SP 63gr bullet has put many of my deer on the ground. This is all i use now out of our 22-250s.

In my 1 in 14 twist barrel I have used the 55 gr. Hornady flat based sp, the 60 gr. flat based HP and the 70 gr. Speer Semi point. All hits broadside through the lungs, none dropped at the shot but none went far. I got some exits but mostly not. However nowadays I shoot for the neck just in front of the shoulder and so far every deer has dropped and a few needed a finisher. I did once shoot an old 10 point with this rifle but mostly I used it for meat hunting does. I like the 22-250 and have used one or another for a lot of coyote and jackrabbit hunting but lately it seems my faster twisted 223 rifles are getting all the action.

14 twist is gonna have problems with 50+gr bullets. I'd go with the 45gr with a 14 twist.

I'd be Shocked if the 22-250 couldn’t handle cup and core bullets to 63 or 64 grains. Short bullets, that is.
