Since I had the Tikka rebarreled and new Leupold VX5 2-10 added to it, I wanted new scope covers. On my last Leupold scope I tried their Alumina Flip Back Lens Cover. The objective cover worked great and stayed in place. The eye piece scope cover once screwed in would not stay in place, it would turn/spin 360 degrees. This meant when you opened them the flap could interfere with the bolt. A call to Leupold and they said they were designed that way so the user could put the flap once opened in the position they wanted. Well, I never did like it. I thought about Butler Creek but I've had a couple flip covers come off.

I did a search and came across Addmount scope covers. They're heavy duty ballistic nylon and are many times tougher than Butler Creek. They cost $99 bucks so they weren't as expensive as the Leupold Alumina Flip Back Lens scope covers, but more expensive than Butler Creek. I got them yesterday evening. They are very different than Butler creek but from the pictures they look kinda sorta the same. The ballistic nylon is very hard and can't be bent or torqued. They're over sized for each end of the scope. You put them over the scope and they come with an allen wrench and you actually tighten them down in the position you want them to be in. They open and close nicely and the seal seems to be tight as a drum.

Very nice, price not too bad all things considered and made in the USA.

That's some nifty marketing verbiage right there. I have the Butler Creeks and they suck. One day I'll get better caps.

LOL, exactly. WTH is 'ballistic' nylon.

Ballistic nylon is WWII technology basically designed as flak protection for air crews. It is tough and abrasion resilient.

Those look like great caps, but $99 is a HUGE price.

I have been using Vortex Defender caps that are about $19 each. They won't snap and break like the old Bulter Creeks, but I understand Butler Creek has a newer version out that isn't brittle plastic either.

Had one of the guys at NightForce recommend these for one of their scopes that didn't have NF caps available yet.

Thx for posting close ups and feedback.

$99 doesn't seem all that bad if it's going on a $3000 scope (NF ATACR, S&B PMII, etc)....

Those are 3D printed and ballistic nylon is a bunch of marketing hype. They look very close to the same material type that comes out of our HP 3D printer here at the office. I would assume it's actually PA12 nylon with glass bead built into it. Nice stiffness, but hope you dont drop it.

$99 for something that sized and 3D printed doesn't seem unreasonable at all for retail, although they could have done a little better job on their post processing.
