Thoughts on this tank? Old or did he eat another deer at 2.5 lol? His body is giant compared to other bucks around and antlers are really weak compared to others.....he won’t get a bullet either way I’m just curious at this point. [Linked Image]

Maybe sick? Seems to have a bloated stomach but a weak rump and weak shoulders. One big sign to show age is his neck goes straight to his brisket. Tough one. He is either really old and on the decline antler wise, or he is young with a stomach problem. I just don’t know diseases enough to know what it might be...

Didn’t think about sick. Although his legs look short like an old fat man and he was well enough to get in the pen and eat so that would be my last guess if he was truly sick.

That buck can tell you about the times when buffalo and pronghorns roamed that area. grin Mature bucks this time of the year will not have many of the muscling and body shape like they will have in October. Depth of body in the brisket and belly line will show the most on older bucks. The hump on top of his shoulders is another key to showing age of a very mature to post mature buck. His could be from the way he is standing but he is mature. Bucks in some areas that are very old, 9 -10 +yrs old will sometimes appear to look more like a 3 or 4 yr old buck. Those are the difficult ones to age when you have only one photo and no history. I have seen pics of known bucks that were over 10 yrs old and they did not look anywhere close to that age. They had TC pics of one buck for 9-10 yrs of his life. LF and in a highly hunted area of Texas.

I always said that those old fully mature bucks look like a hotdog bun with legs.

Thanks STX, I would go with way past mature then. I’ve seen 3.5 y/o bucks that have double the antlers he has and need at least another 2 years before they are shooters. He will live out his life most likely at this point.

He reminds me of our overweight wiener dog that was suppose to be a miniature. Short, long and fat lol.

Old, look at his huge belly, brisket meeting neck. Post mature and a cullable deer assuming no ARs as not sure on spread from that pic. Looks tall but not real wide.

If you see him, ask him what Noah fed him on the ark.

My age guess would depend on where (county) the buck is.

Maybe he has an eating disorder. But I'm going with older'n dirt.

First class feed pen you got there. up Is that itty-bitty wire inside a cattle panel? Keeping quail out, or what?

More than likely that ranch has goats on it. Those panels are death trap for them when they get their head/horns stuck in the larger squares.

Winner. Goat proofing hog panels so they won’t get their noggins stuck.

Gotcha. I've pulled more than one of those idiots out of a fence.

So far so good. Those critters will get their head stuck in a hole no matter how small it is.
