Ok, so I know this is dumb, but it's been bugging me every year. At the end of the hunt, you clean your birds, throw them in a zip lock, and by the time you get home they've poked holes in the ziploc and bled all over your cooler water. Last year I bought a tray for my cooler, but we filled that on the first day and ran into the same problem. Or, if you're the type to freeze them in water, they drip onto the floor of your freezer until the holes freeze or they're empty.

I can't be the only one with this problem. Who's got a trick or a product to fix it?

Just have a small cooler that is for birds only.

When I get home I vacuum pack them to help alleviate that problem.

Game sheers. It's usually that sharp bone from breaking the wings off that pokes holes in baggies. Trim all sharp bones off breast. Or you can just filet them, then no bones.

I put my birds whole in ziplock bags, on ice, clean them when I get home. But I also put Tupperware in my cooler, keeps them dry, keep whole bags of ice in cooler and keep water drained out also helps. I might put a paper towel in the ziplock bag as well help with moisture, blood from shot up bird.... You can keep birds whole on ice for a week and they are fine. I do the same thing for duck when I go on camp trips and gone for days. I have to be real bored to clean birds when I’m out of town, which is normally not the case.

yup. i just cut across where the wing bone meets the breast.

Game shears also. You still loose a bag every now and then but most will be fine. I use the same bag when I get home to freeze birds in water. Were usually hunting with several people and we combine the birds at home when we freeze them. Some 1 gallon bags have 45- 50 dove in them.

I have used a Tupperware container for decades. Easily fits in my cooler.

This is what I do. I dont cook them on the breast plate, and it takes about 1/2 a second to slice the meat off the breast so I only bring the meat home. No need to transport anything more.

Easier to keep birds whole until you get home especially if you shoot collared dove.

HEB sells plastic tubs that way stronger than bags, not as expensive as Tupperware, a limit with one wing on the breasts fits and closes tight. a folded "Blue Towel" from the roll will help with seeps from the meat. Sharpie writes on the lids or sides and stays through a few washings, too!
