In the past I've done limited recording of my own hunts but I'm going to shift my focus. Rather than the typical deer and hog hunting, for example, I booked an Aoudad hunt, and I'm planning Black Bear and Mountain Lion. For these hunts, I'm considering hiring a videographer. Has anybody done this? Who/what/when/where/cost/etc.

Thank you.

What is sad about this?

I'm with Larry.

That's fine, you can be with Larry. But neither of you have provided any value to the thread.

*Why is this sad*?

It's sad for me to want to have a more complete, better quality record of my adventures for my memories and to share with family and friends that are interested but were not with me?

MM, I have never had a video of any kind for a hunt (mostly because I still have trouble getting the hunting part right), but completely understand and support your rationale for wanting it. To each his own.

Same. Another reason I came up with the idea, reducing distractions. Not having to mess with a [video]camera - focusing on the experience, not focusing on documenting it.

Thanks for the feedback.

If you want it documented, then more power to you. It's your money. A lot of guys have it done in Africa. However, from a practical standpoint, it's another body moving around and two more feet crunching through the terrain.

A good point on my list of cons. Along with cost - another point of yours.

Thanks, Creekrunner.

There where a few different people advertising this awhile ago, but I'm not sure where. Maybe at https://www.africahunting.com/community/ or one of the hunting groups on FB.

For awhile I tried filming my hunts. I really enjoyed capturing different animals and a few times managed to get the actual hunt on film. But then after getting home and watching it once, I could never bring myself to watch it again. After a few years, I had a small collection of different hunts that I never watched, that just sat on a shelf, and then when I moved to Texas, they sat in a box for years. Last year while cleaning out a bunch of junk and stuff that I never use anymore, I decided it was time to get rid of all those tapes and DVD's of those hunts. I have lots of pictures that I never look at either, but I'll save those. I've heard wedding video is the same way, you watch it once and then never again. I still take my camera along, and I enjoy taking thousands of pictures, but then I delete 95 percent of them to create a Picaboo book that we show to friends, which has proven to be much more enjoyable.

People also drive automobiles and actually fly in airplanes these days too. The horror.

I apologize.
My opinion is not what the OP was asking for.

That's where you went wrong. I did not ask for opinions. So rather than provide any value you spammed my thread and did not even respond to my question about why my inquiry was sad.

Actually, I just went thru some of these same scenarios myself. I really enjoy video of my hunts, or those of the kids and grandkids. Some provided entertainment and laughter, while others had information on areas. I have shot hundreds of hours of tape of places I will never get to see again, or of friends who have passed and left a hole in our hearts when they were gone.

I have only had one hunt professionally filmed, and it was a 14 day safari in Namibia (my first). The professional hunter's brother was between clients and offered to shoot my entire hunt for $500 with his professional grade TV camera. A deal I couldn't pass up. It is a little more difficult, but the good camera operators make it look easy. They are almost always as good a hunter as you are too. It does hurt when they call you off a shot, if they can't get it but you learn to live with that. Depending on your mindset, and why you hunt in the first place, it isn't really that bad. On my leopard hunt in Namibia, the apprentice who was training with us offered to carry my camera the entire time for free. I have many shots I never would have thought to get without him.

Now that I have all of these 8mm tapes, I no longer have a camera or player to watch them, so I had them all saved to a thumb drive, and loaded the files to my computer and the Cloud so that my family could enjoy them once when I am gone. After that, they can disappear for all I care, but they will have provided a little insight into my life.

Blank, thanks for the response.

If you care to, and can, post your videos. We'd all like to see them. Well, CptKaos and BayouGuy won't, they think it's sad but we'll ignore them.

I know a lot can be missed in text versus face-to-face conversation but I didn't read that message as an apology but, rather, condescension. If it was truly an apology than I will apologize to him and thank him for his apology.

What does Youtube have to do with this?

Now that's funny. I don't care who you'are.
