I work retail, so starting about mid November until the season ends I am very limited on my time off, so I try to hunt pretty hard early on in the season. However, based on my cameras I would say the peak time for deer opportunities are usually about Oct 31-Nov 12 in central Oklahoma depending on several factors of course.
So do you guys hunt hard certain times of the year and when do you see the most deer out during shooting light.

I hunt hard when I see something really worth shooting.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

When does archery season start and MLD end this coming season? I am lucky in the fact that I able to hunt just about every morning and evening of the season. Weather or family errands or keep from hunting more. I will hunt a 130-150 days each season on my own places, lease, friends ranches, draw hunts and maybe even a paid hunt each year. I still hunt as much as I can and have tags to fill. If I happen to fill the buck tags early, I take photos and work on predators/hogs while working on the does in late Jan into early Feb.

I’ve come to the point in my hunting life that just being in camp is enjoyable. I still get up to hunt mornings but I sit in a stand. It’s not hard hunting by any means. My favorite time would be around thanksgiving

In my experience, the most deer movement is the full moon in Nov. I try to hunt the full moon and days surrounding the full moon in Nov. This year, that is Nov 12th, and I will hunt hard all day for about 5 days surrounding the full moon. I hunt in far north OK and in TX, and I find that the full moon activity is more prevalent up in OK than here in TX.

When I see or hear of that special 3-5 day peak rut when the chase is on, I'll hunt the hardest.

If only had one week to hunt for Whitetail in my area it would be the week prior to the peak of the rut. The bucks are looking for does and moving around, it is the best time on my place to rattle. When the bucks have located a doe in heat they are going to push her away from my place, the feeders and the food plots on my place. When the rut is over is also a good time for me. For Mule Deer it would be the last 4-5 days of the season in the Trans Pecos region I hunt. I have killed deer just about every day of the season or MLD season that we have. Killed them in the heat to freezing cold, rain to snow to fog to drought, in the high wind to calm, clear bluebird days to overcast, rising to falling barometer, full moon to dark of the moon and everything in-between, over a feeder, in a food plot, hunting mast crops, glassing, walking, stalking and hunting from a Top Drive...the one thing all of my hunts have had in common is that I was hunting when I had the time to hunt. Go every chance you get and your success will be much better in the end. Just learn the patterns the deer will be in for every week of the season.... from the first day of archery till the last day of the season in your area. Trail Cameras tell you a lot and but sitting in the stand/hunting tells you just as much or more. You may have to find the deer and go to him and not wait on him to hunt you.

We hunt pretty far south south texas. Every year seems like we see a jump in activity the last two weeks of the year and the first 2 weeks of the new year. I would probably give up the rest of the season to hunt those 4 weeks... lol like I could ever get hunt 4 weeks straight

I found it was more productive hunting 5-7 days straight than 3 hunts every weekend or every other weekend.

I'm 69 and retired and hunt with my wife- who is an excellent hunter. We are MLD, so season starts early and ends late. During Oct. and Nov. we try to hunt every day, its all according to what I'm seeing and trail cameras tell me. At this time in my life, I enjoy the opportunity to go out and watch nature at it's best. Full moon or new moon deer are active. I hunt East Texas piney woods timber land, so it's a different type hunting. Last week in Oct thru Nov 15 seems to be the most active, rut goes full bore then. Also cold weather helps-especially in the 30's- they need more food to maintain body temp. We will hunt over a 100 days a season easily. As far as what's the best or part of the season, it's always when you have the opportunity to do it. Just enjoy it when you do get hunt!!!

Every year i try to do the entire 16 day gun season in Oklahoma with my Dad. May not be that many years left with him. We also do muzzle loader and bow but usually a couple weekends of that. Rest of the time it is night time hog hunting any chance i get.

I guide duck and goose hunts, so I try to deer hunt when I can. But you can guarantee I will spend 7-10 days in my deer stand in Junction during the split!

My primary place has been 2 hours away so I had to be pretty selective (some weekends after baseball games and 4-5 days in November). But this year I was drawn for an area 15 minutes away so I'm planning on spending much more time in the stand.

I will hunt around 70 or 80 days most likely. Being retired does help, I like the first 10 days the best.

I get every other weekend off (Saturday - Monday) so I get 5 hunts in every trip as long as weather cooperates. I usually take a week off for opening weekend and then usually Thanksgiving week so I can take my girls with me. Only sleep in occasionally after filling my buck tag.
