Got back in town late last night. Slept for a couple of hours and drove down to southern AZ for some glassing. Spent time on the Helinox Chair One. It is much more comfortable than my glassing stool. Once I get the feet situation resolved, it'll start being used more. I brought the Slik tripod to get used to it as it will be what I use on my upcoming Dall sheep hunt. It is not as steady as my Manfrotto but is over a pound lighter. Also brought along my 300 Win Mag that will be going along with me to AK. Historically this has been a great spot for Coues and javelina. There is a canyon below. While walking around, I failed to look at the ground. Thankfully I reacted faster than he did. With thunderstorms rolling in I figured why not take a 1000 yard shot and see where the bullet hits. I have never attempted that distance before. In the yellow band of rocks, there was a special marking. There was a horizontal crack that met a vertical white strip. That was my aiming point. The bullet impacted 6-8 inches. I was pleasantly surprised. My second shot was at the same horizontal crack where it met the black vertical line. Impact was 6-8 inches high as well. I was loving this. I then figured I'd capture the third shot on video. This shot was the same horizontal crack but where the white and black vertical stripes met. This one was a bit higher. I was wondering about why I was high on all three shots so I stopped and looked at my ballistic app. With the environmentals from when it was zeroed, Strelok said there are 259.67 inches of drop. When I told Strelok to use the current environmentals, it said there are 252.74 inches of drop. Would have been nice to confirm those numbers but I do not care to be out with lightning so I packed up and headed back home. Overall it was a great morning.
